This position is responsible for planning, organizing, initiating and evaluating recreational and social programs for long term care residents based on individual needs. Assist new residents in adjusting to their new home environment. This position reports to the Recreation Development Specialist. Qualifications:- Graduation from High School or equivalency;
- Minimum of one year?s experience in providing recreational activities;
- Ability to develop, plan and carry out an overall recreational and social program for long term care residents;
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with the elderly and with clients/residents who may be physically and/or mental disadvantaged;
- Must possess a high degree of energy, initiative and innovation;
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (CPR);
- Breastfeeding education;
- Computer proficiency in Meditech, MDS, 2.0 MS word and outlook
- The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct. Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Assists and participates in a variety of recreational activities;
- Helps organize church services, musical events, bingos, bus outings, fun and fitness activities;
- Participates and plans individual and group leisure activities (games, arts and crafts, movies)
- Reads resident stories, delivers and reads (if requested) residents? mail;
- Collaborates with Supervisor regarding daily activity schedules, and works collaboratively with others to deliver programming;
- Provides encouragement to residents and their families to participate in activities;
- Coordinates programs appropriate to the residents? needs;
- Participates in Resident/ Family Council as needed;
- Maintains accurate records for residents, and may conducts resident assessments as required;
- Other duties as requested
