Job Title: Family Educator
Position Overview:
The Family Educator plays an essential role within our organization, providing personalized in-home visits and group-based support to empower families. The primary focus is on enhancing parental mental well-being, increasing parenting confidence, and promoting home stability - foundational elements that contribute to children's healthy development and long-term success.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or post-secondary diploma in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience working with vulnerable families.
- Experience in facilitating group sessions an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of child development and family dynamics.
Skills:
- Strong work ethic and professional integrity.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Non-judgmental approach and cultural competency.
- Highly organized with effective time management skills.
- Resilient with strong coping and stress management abilities.
- Active listening skills and the ability to engage diverse populations effectively.
Special Requirements and Training:
- Successful completion of criminal background and SD checks as per Headstart policies.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Reliable access to personal transportation for community outreach.
- Knowledge of mental health issues and substance use disorders.
- Ability to interpret and utilize program documentation and reports.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of all clients, organizational, and community information.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Community Engagement:
- Promote awareness and understanding of agency services and programs within the community.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with local organizations, including Early Childhood and Education associations.
- Advocate for children's rights and support families in accessing community resources.
- Foster strong relationships between the agency, families, and community stakeholders.
Program Implementation:
- Develop and regularly review individualized family service plans.
- Assist parents in setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals for their children and themselves.
- Build and sustain ongoing supportive relationships with families to promote child development.
- Conduct developmental assessments and needs evaluations.
- Provide guidance and resources to parents regarding parenting skills and developmental milestones.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of new programs and services.
- Participate in scheduled meetings and community or agency events.
Teamwork and Professionalism:
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community partners.
- Communicate clearly and professionally within the team environment.
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to a positive, reflective organizational culture.
- Demonstrate professionalism and cultural sensitivity in all interactions.
Additional Duties:
- Perform any other duties necessary to support the agency's mission and objectives.
