The Manager – Data Risk Oversight will be part of the Data and AI Risk team in Global Risk Management reporting to the Director – Data Risk. The Manager will be responsible for supporting Data risk oversight activities in Canada and globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. The Manager will work with the Senior Manager(s) and Director to ensure that the Bank's exposure to data risk is effectively identified, measured, monitored and remediated.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Support the implementation of the Data Risk Program Plan and associated activities in the assigned North American and/or International Scotiabank business unit(s), and/or subsidiaries.
  • Provide expertise and advice to the first line of defense on the design and best practices of effective Data risk controls, metrics, compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Identify opportunities and execute enhancement to the data risk oversight practice.
  • Drive the development and delivery of communication strategies for new processes and procedures.
  • Develop strong partnerships with other risk functions and business partners to provide professional advice and guidelines for data risk mitigation.
  • Conduct assessment of the design and operating effectiveness of data controls developed and implemented by the first line of defense.
  • Support the implementation of data risk assessments and provide 2nd line challenge including assessment of identified data controls and their rating.
  • Complete data risk controls evidence assessment, review findings and conduct analysis of the remediation plans in a timely manner.
  • Support the execution of the Risk Data Aggregation and Risk Reporting (RDARR) compliance program ensuring adherence to BCBS 239 principles and requirements.
  • Maintain and enhance Data risk documentation (procedures, assessments, testing and reporting) and End User Computing (EUC) files.
  • Assist in execution of the periodical and ad-hoc reporting to the Board, CRO, Risk Committees, including collection of metrics and creation of dashboards and reports.
  • Exercise sound judgment in identifying, reporting, and escalating risks or issues to senior management.
  • Foster an inclusive and collaborative team environment and prioritize team's goals.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Has an undergraduate and/or graduate degree.
  • 5+ years experience in data management, data governance, internal control, risk management, compliance, technology compliance, audit or related areas
  • Knowledge of data and technology management best practices and concepts (e.g., cloud architecture, data quality, metadata, data lineage, data catalogue(s), etc.)
  • Knowledge of data risks and data governance/management requirements and regulations e.g. BCBS 239.
  • Experience in a testing or an audit role at a financial institution would be considered an asset.
  • Very good analytical skills, conceptual thinking, systematic problem solving and able to deal with ambiguity.
  • Strong communication and relationship skills with a proven track record of engaging and presenting to stakeholders.
