The Head Equipment Manager reports to the Head Coach of the Women's Hockey team. This position is responsible for managing and maintaining the STU dedicated space at the Grant Harvey facility, including: cleaning, preparing the dressing rooms for practices and games, sharpening skates, and ordering and maintaining equipment. The Head Equipment Manager may assist in recruiting, selecting, and training student and volunteer equipment trainer positions. The Head Equipment Manager will foster and maintain strong lines of communication with the coach of the Women's Hockey team and the Director of Athletics and Recreation.
The successful candidate for this position will receive a stipend.

- Prepares and maintains dressing rooms for practices and games.
- Cleans dressing rooms after practices and games, including laundering of practice clothing and game jerseys.
- Regularly cleans the Women's Hockey side of the STU dedicated space at the Grant Harvey Centre, including the showers, washrooms, student lounges, fitness room, and coaches' offices, on a regular basis. Occasionally cleans the other side of the STU dedicated space as well, specifically through fall sport season.
- Ensures skate sharpening and equipment repair for the Women's Hockey team is done well in advance of games and practices.
- Prepares and packs road trip boxes and team bags
- Attends all practices and home and away games.
- Ensures all equipment used by the players is functioning properly and is maintained and repaired.
- In cooperation and with guidance from the head coach, is responsible for negotiating equipment purchases and ensuring that equipment and materials expenditures are within approved budget.
- Maintains equipment inventory spreadsheet, and ensures that equipment and materials needed are acquired
- Distributes equipment to student athletes and signs-out equipment to student-athletes in off season.
- Communicates any unsafe conditions or accidents that occur in or around the dressing rooms to the Coach or the Director of Athletics and Recreation as the situation dictates.
- Assists with the recruiting, selecting, and training of student and volunteer equipment trainers.
- Assists with the planning, organizing, and event day activities of special university hockey events.
- Other duties as required.
- High school diploma (grade 12) or GED.
- Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in risk management in sports venues and athletics environments.
- Strong organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques.
- Knowledge of the University's varsity programs, regulations, and services.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional/mature demeanour.
- Experience in using word processing and spreadsheet programs.
- Initiative and ability to complete work assignments with minimal direction.
- Experience as equipment manager would be an asset; knowledge of and familiarity with the game of hockey and its necessary equipment are a requirement.
- First Aid, AED, and CPR training.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Regular requirement to have irregular work hours (evenings and weekends) during regular season and play-offs; required to work a varied work week due to the nature of practices and game day operations.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Awareness of a variety of activities which are proceeding simultaneously.
- Travel is required.
- May represent the University as required to outside organizations and suppliers.
- Safe Sport training and a valid Criminal Record Check will be required within the first month of employment.
