Job Title: Music Therapist (.7 FTE)

Job Description: Responsible for providing music therapy on a 1:1 basis and in a group setting to residents as well as providing music therapy programs

Education Required:

  • Must have a degree in Music Therapy from a recognized university
  • Must be a certified, or in process of becoming certified, music therapist
  • Must have the ability to play the guitar
  • Police check and Vulnerable Sector Screening Request in the last 3 months is required
  • Experience in long-term care or a similar environment an asset
  • Experience working with seniors an asset
  • Leadership experience and asset

Competencies:

  • Effective communication both written and verbal in English with residents, families and co-workers
  • Strong moral and ethics along with a commitment to Privacy and Confidentiality in all aspects of the organization
  • Proficiency on piano, voice and guitar
  • Acts with integrity and respects the rights and dignity of all residents
  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
  • Problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability
  • Reliable with good attendance and cheerful disposition
  • Maintenance of a clean and sanitary environment
  • Possesses exemplary Customer Service skills
  • Respectful and hardworking team player

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct discipline based assessments of individual and group needs and plan for relevant therapeutic interventions
  • Provide individual and group activities and therapeutic interventions independently or with Recreation Department
  • Maintain progress notes and chart on resident's progress
  • Maintain music supplies and equipment
  • Participates in staff education programs as applicable
  • Completes assigned and routine tasks without direct supervision
  • Recognizes residents' abilities and limitations and works within their capabilities
  • An active interest in continuing education
