Duties: Located at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, this position will promote quality evidence-based nursing practice through education and professional development of the staff of the perioperative program at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook and Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville. The individual in this position is responsible for the design, delivery, and evaluation of orientation and other educational programs specific to the perioperative program areas. The Clinical Educator will model, promote, facilitate and evaluate a best practice approach to care that is patient focused and evidence based. The person in this role functions as a mentor, educator, researcher and consultant whose goal is to facilitate the professional development of practicing nurses.

Qualifications: Current registration with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador as well as a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is required. Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification in perioperative nursing is an asset. Courses related to adult or vocational education is an asset, and knowledge of adult learning principles is required. Knowledge of program development and evaluation is also required.
Four years? experience within the last six years in an operating room setting with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based standards of care for perioperative patient care is required. Clinical proficiency with nursing skills applicable to the perioperative area and expertise with equipment commonly used in the perioperative area is also required. Experience in facilitating adult learning is an asset.
This position requires demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communications, teaching, and presentation skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and be able to mentor, educate, coach and motivate staff in an individual or team setting. Candidates must be self-directed and able to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment. Research skills and the ability to incorporate research and evidence-based practice demonstrated commitment to continuous learning. Proficient computer skills are required. A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is also required.
