Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions Services, the Occupational Therapist (OT II) is a regulated health professional who provides a full range of clinical occupational therapy services in the provision of programs pertaining to Mental Health and Addictions service users. The OT II is an integral member of the interdisciplinary mental health team that provides intensive in-office and mobile services to individuals with serious mental illness and concurrent related complexities of mental health issues/disorders. This position will work with other team members in providing education and in-service in best practice approaches. The occupational therapist assesses the impact of mental and/or physical health issues on individuals’ ability and motivation to engage in self-care, productivity, and social and leisure activities, and focuses on enabling individuals to participate meaningfully in activities of daily living. This position demands a high level of independence with work assignments of a complex nature and the use of specialized skills in the treatment of mental illness and addictions within an interdisciplinary team. Qualifications:
? Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy; Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy preferred;
? A minimum of two years’ experience within the last five years working as a Clinical Occupational Therapist in mental health/addictions is preferred.
? Licensure with the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board (NLOTB).
? Advanced clinical knowledge and skills in the areas of assessment, intervention, case planning and community engagement
? Specific knowledge and experience in the areas of mental illness, addictions, and its impacts on individuals and families
? Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with interprofessional team members, patients/residents/clients and their families in a one-to-one and group environment.
? Effective written communication skills a must for client documentation, report writing, and professional communications.
? Demonstrated independence, initiative, and ability to work with others
? Proven supervisory and leadership skills; ability to coach, mentor and train Clinical Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapist Support Workers, students and other staff members as necessary.
? Ability to manage multiple practice settings.
? Willing to work a flexible work schedule, may include evenings and weekends.
? Use of a private vehicle and valid driver license are a condition of employment.
? The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.

Duties (Included but not limited to)
? Plan, organize and conduct individualized functional assessments
? Participate in capacity assessments
? Assist with individual activities of daily living
? Work in partnership with the team to conduct environmental and cognitive assessments and adjust treatment plans as necessary to accommodate the individuals’ needs
? Support individuals to find and maintain safe and affordable stable housing, cleaning and furnishing and procuring utilities, such as telephones, linens, food and cleaning supplies.
? Support individuals in skill development, such as performing daily household activities, grocery shopping, developing healthy eating habits, maintaining personal hygiene and using public transportation, if required
? Oversee environmental adaptations to assist individuals in gaining or using existing skills to perform activities of daily living.
? Provide vocational leadership by conducting readiness assessments and offering transition-to-work programs for individuals who have identified employment and education as their personal goals
? Coordinates clinical tasks and educating staff regarding OT clinical and treatment skills in accordance with professional standards and facility guidelines.
? Duties may also include providing occupational therapy services to clients admitted to acute care with mental health and/or addictions issues.
? Participates on various on-site committees and working groups.
? Other related duties as required; travel maybe required, maybe required to work alone.
