Key activities:
As a member of the senior team, the Associate Director will support the Executive Director, Operations and Security to identify priorities, and drive best practices in the implementation of maintenance projects, security functions and garage operations. The incumbent will ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial laws and regulations, Treasury Board directives and NAC By-Laws, Policies, and procedures. The Associate Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of project controls and reporting in regard to all building maintenance and general maintenance projects.
The Associate Director is responsible for leading and developing a strong team and establishing and maintaining successful internal and external relationships. The incumbent will value the dynamics of the artistic environment and work closely with all of the NAC's departments to effectively deliver services and projects to enhance the visitor experience and artistic presentations. The incumbent will be a hands-on self-starter who exhibits a proactive mindset with excellent communication, relationship-building and influencing skills, and the ability to effectively manage through change and growth.
The candidate will also ensure that work does not interfere with the NAC's programming and operational constraints. You will be a strong link between the front facing services and various NAC departments and stakeholders.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Creating and tracking operational benchmarks including scope of work, budget and schedules;
• Implementing quality assurance procedures to ensure service practices meet NAC standards;
• Managing procurement of service contract work and supply arrangements in accordance with NAC policies;
• Maintain accurate building system documentation;
• Ensuring standards for safe working conditions are in place and upheld;
• Providing regular briefings to colleagues and Executive Directors on work status and risk;
• The incumbent must be available for emergency calls and for work after regular business hours.
Required qualifications:
• Bachelor degree preferably in Engineering or Project Management or a technical certification in the field of engineering, architecture, buildings, M&E or related fields with a minimum of approximately ten (10) years experience in a construction or project environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Knowledgeable in project management principals and techniques related to real property, construction of buildings, assets and contract management, including planning and development to the delivery phase of the project;
• Experience in procurement processes and contract management for service contracts, supply arrangements, construction, engineering, and maintenance, and leasing services;
• Familiar with applicable code regulations and safety standards such as the building code and accessibility standards;
• Demonstrates a commitment to the NAC mission and ability to deliver an exceptional level of service and partnership with a focus on visitor experience;
• Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism, collaboration, integrity, fairness, respect, and ethics in all interactions and dealings;
• Demonstrated experience in dealing with multiple stakeholder/clients and diverging needs;
• Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, decision making skills, leadership skills and financial management knowledge;
• Ability to support, development, and train key stakeholders and employees to build organizational awareness;
• Demonstrated experience working and managing in a unionized environment
• Demonstrated experience managing a revenue generating operations and/or departments;
• Good organizational skills, initiative and autonomy;
• Ability to take initiative and work with limited supervision;
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively with others;
• Advance computer software knowledge including MS Office. Working knowledge of MS Project would be an asset;
• Ability to work under pressure and to react quickly in emergency situations;
• Knowledgeable in Health and Safety regulations;
• Proof of a valid driver's license (equivalent to an Ontario G class permit) and clean driver abstract;
• First Aid certification and WHMIS training a definite asset and will be required upon hire;
• Bilingual in both official languages(English and French), oral and written;
• A past record of satisfactory attendance and punctuality is a requirement*.
