Mechanical Engineer

Our long term Asset management Plan includes an ambitious capital program to rebuild, renew and replace portions of our installed asset base.
You will be responsible to provide ongoing support to effectively manage and operate the Corporation's resources in a safe, secure, efficient, customer-focused and environmentally responsible manner. Support work includes planning, performing studies, technical training, developing standards and tools. You will review and aid in developing capital budget applications, supporting a multi-discipline team to perform estimates and technical justification proposals for all Hydro's Non-Regulated infrastructure. You are expected to exercise a personal initiative and judgment in carrying out assigned duties as they relate to project planning. You will also make recommendations to improve Corporation's performance of its key goals and targets.
This position also supports technical and project execution activities and may include completing various site engineering duties including site assessments and data gathering, support for and/or acting as a project manager, preparation of project proposals (capital & operating), preparation of project progress reports, involvement in preparing project estimates, schedules, resource requirements, forecasting, project management from initiation through design, construction, commissioning and closeout, contract management and change management, tender preparation and bid evaluations. Your role will provide a key interface between the operations and maintenance team and the project execution team.

- Excellent analytical skills and problem solving abilities.
What You'll Need:
To excel in this position you will need to bring the following:
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree;
- Eligibility for membership in Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL);
- Proven and demonstrated communication skills;
- Have experience managing and working with external engineering consultants is considered an asset;
- Ability to thrive as a participant within a multi-discipline team of both internal and external resources;
- Experience in engineering projects estimate, development and project management techniques;
- Project management experience would be an asset;
- Experience working with MS Office and MS Excel;
- Knowledge and familiarity with estimation software is considered an asset;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
- You must possess a valid driver's license
