The Director, Financial Planning and Analysis is a member of Canadian Banking Finance and plays a key role in providing finance support to Canadian Commercial & Business Banking, contributing to the business line's strategic direction and results as well as to the integrity of the business line financials, systems and reporting. The position supports and leads in the following areas:

  • Lead the business line FP&A activities including Planning and Forecasting, Month-end, Quarter-end and Year-end reporting and analysis of business line results
  • Enhance financial models and reporting packages for planning, tracking and reporting on business line performance and various initiatives
  • Elevate financial planning and analysis including rollout of new tools and enhance sub business line level forecasting and planning
  • Introduce deeper financial insight with focus on product, segment and channel profitability
  • Support stakeholder management within the business line, finance and support functions
  • Collaborate with key partners in business, portfolio management, treasury, strategy and operations

In fulfilling the role, the incumbent must work with the various leaders within Business, Finance and other internal partners. In addition, the incumbent will also lead various projects

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Manage annual Profit Plans and forecasts and monitor P&L to ensure budget compliance
  • Oversee accurate forecasts by carefully observing trends in Balance Sheet and P&L, and liaise with the field and partners
  • Identify drivers, solve concerns and summarize and provide commentary and recommendations to business line and finance leadership teams
  • Work closely with stakeholders in business line, finance and partners to ensure effective and timely execution
  • Lead the rollout of new planning and forecasting tools and deepen financial reporting and KPIs to segment and regional views
  • Lead the team's preparation of all monthly and quarterly reporting, KPIs and dashboards
  • Oversee reporting on actuals vs. plan volumes, revenue, margins and expenses
  • Review the submissions for reasonability and work with partners in providing accurate data and proper explanations
  • Cultivate and manage relationships within the organization to provide top-notch collaboration and deliver on all initiatives
  • Evaluate and recommend alternates to meet initiative objectives and deadlines while improving efficiencies and enhancing collaboration
  • Support projects and business case development and tracking of all strategic initiatives
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • A minimum of 7 years experience in a related position with strong knowledge in managerial accounting and financial management
  • Very strong modelling skills, and expert in Excel and accounting/finance systems such as OBI, Hyperion, Smartstream, Anaplan
  • Attention to detail with superior analytical and presentation skills including PowerPoint presentations
  • Proactive with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong process management, planning and organization skills to facilitate teamwork and coordinate execution of multiple deliverables
  • A good understanding of the Bank's established processes, policies and guidelines around financial accounting and financial management
  • Flexibility is required to adapt to a wide variety of tasks & functions with changing demands
  • A high level of curiosity, energy, commitment and strong sense of teamwork are needed to be successful in the role
