Job SummaryThis position works within the Nurse Practitioner's (NP) scope of practice in the following category: Adult or Family/All Ages. The NP provides treatment of adults with complex mental health and addictions needs. This is an advanced practice role providing professional, analytical and an autonomous comprehensive range of health services to patients including, but not limited to, health assessments and diagnosis diseases, disorders, injuries, and conditions, treating and managing acute and chronic illnesses and identifying health risks and needs within a holistic model.
The NP will work collaboratively as a member of the Neuropsychiatry team and liaise with other health care providers in the community as required. The Neuropsychiatry Program is a consultative program and will see clients where they are i.e. outpatient or inpatient.

Constantly moves, lifts, or operates equipment/machinery up to 10 lbs. and regularly is required to lift/move equipment, books, supplies. Occasionally, may have to reposition a patient over 50 lbs.
Physical effort also includes regular sitting to conduct patient histories, performing work on the computer and when assessing patients, regularly stands or walks.
When performing procedures, regularly uses fine finger/precision work and hand tools (i.e. medical instruments, computer mouse, stethoscope, dopplers, etc.) requiring accurate control and steadiness.
Visual concentration is required when performing physical assessment and procedures, completing charts/reports, observing patients, reading equipment/monitors, and completing work-related correspondence on the computer.
Job Qualifications
Completion of an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner program is required.
Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) and licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner Adult or Family/All Ages.
A minimum of five years of clinical experience in the last seven in adult mental health and/or addictions is required.
Current BCLS Certification is required.
Canadian Nurses Association certification in "Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing" is an asset.
University of Ottawa Course: "Prescribing Narcotics and Controlled Substances" would be considered an asset.
Completion of ASIST Suicide Prevention training and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training are assets.
Knowledge of the Mental Health Care and Treatment Act is a requirement.

Identifies, develops, plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates health promotion/wellness activities, community capacity building initiatives, and health related services or resources. This involves working with community groups, or collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to educate patients, their families, and communities on these activities.
Participates in continuing education to keep abreast of current developments in nursing.
Mentors and provides preceptorship to nursing students.
Conducts and participates in research activities as appropriate.
Conducts performance and program evaluation activities.
A condition of employment for this position includes the use of a personal vehicle and a Class 5 Driver License.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
