The Department of Medicine (DoM) is the largest clinical/academic department at Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine and the largest clinical and academic health care entity in Atlantic Canada. We are looking for a Manager Finance who will report to the COO/CFO and will take on the following responsibilities:

Prepare and submit bi-monthly physician payments and staff payroll. Strong understanding of payroll processes and reporting requirements.

Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the financial records for our three entities ensuring that strong internal controls are maintained as is general ledger integrity.

Ensure that the approved departmental practice plan is followed and communicated to physicians when necessary.

Maintain all bank accounts, including deposits and issuance of all cheques/payments from these accounts ensuring the use of sound financial practices and principles.

Responsible for all bank transactions including wire transfers, bank reconciliations, visa statement payments and other banking functions as required.

Responsible for the investment accounting of our internal research foundation portfolio.

Support the consolidated annual budget cycle including our three entities and our Dalhousie and Nova Scotia Health operational budgets. Responsible for robust projection of financial results including variance analysis.

Produce regular and timely financial and budgetary reports for senior leadership and funders including supporting the Financial Management Committee as needed with reports and analysis.

Support the management of the Clinical/Academic Funding Plan (C/AFP), develop and prepare financial and operational data reports as needed.

Manage the reporting of physician FTE's by individual, division and department.

Provide leadership and daily managerial functions to the staff within the Finance office.

Carry out accounts payable and receivable functions, as per established policies and approval levels supported by Finance office staff.

Maintain a database of all physician payments, regular and ad hoc reporting to physicians regarding their payments and required physician remuneration and FTE status reporting to stakeholders.

Responsible for the annual tax reporting for physicians and staff.

Coordinate the audits of our three entities on an annual basis.

Support the COO/CFO and attend meetings as needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS: Strong problem-solving ability, strong leadership and communication skills, customer service mindset, with an ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, champions respectful workplace practices.

To be the successful Manager, Finance you will have:

  • Undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Commerce or Business Administration.
  • CPA designation or working towards the designation.
  • Knowledge of current accounting policies and practices (GAAP) including accounting for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Above average interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and effective time management skills
  • Proficiency in the use of accounting and Microsoft Office software.
  • Confidentiality and diplomacy required to deal with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Minimum of three to five years of accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience of supervising staff.
