Ocean Choice is currently seeking a dynamic, highly skilled and innovative individual for the position of General Manager to join their Fleet Operations Group located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. With dual reporting into the Chief Executive Officer and the President, the General Manager is responsible for the safe and environmentally responsible management of all aspects of one shrimp or groundfish fishing vessel.
As a key member of the shore-based support team, the General Manager is responsible for developing and implementing effective vessel management strategies, including but not limited to efficient turnaround schedules; fishing plan activities; and preventative maintenance oversight, including coordinating activities with vessel crew and maintenance supervisors. The General Manager is responsible for coordinating compliance with all federal and provincial safety legislation requirements as well as corporate objectives. The General Manager will also implement, prepare and review monthly vessel reports; and lead numerous projects that contribute to Ocean Choice's culture of continuous improvement to drive effective and efficient vessel operations.
The following are the qualifications for the role of General Manager:
- Possess training in a marine discipline or a relevant degree in business, fisheries management or related fields.
- Minimum of five years' experience managing vessels, ideally in the fishing industry.
- Strong knowledge of maritime regulations and safety standards
- Proficiency in navigating various fleet management systems
- Ability to make critical decisions under pressure
The candidate we are seeking is a natural collaborator that will motivate and work with our sales and marketing team, quality assurance, and finance and accounting team. You are a solutions-focused, experienced professional with sound judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills and you have the capability to manage multiple projects in a demanding, fast-paced work environment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package, including health and an RRSP program, is available.
