Purpose


Contribute to the overall success of Global Operational Risk (GOR) by supporting innovation and accelerated delivery of high customer impact reporting and analytics initiatives in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Accountabilities

This is a highly technical role that requires close stakeholder engagement, main accountabilities are:

  • Responsible for development, maintenance, and distribution of simple to sophisticated Power BI reports/dashboards and design queries focused on key performance measures of GOR program.
  • Design visually impactful and intuitive dashboards using Power Bi, ensuring data models are efficient.
  • Conduct requirements analysis, support data model enhancements with analysis and solution recommendations by gathering feedback from stakeholders and business partners.
  • Support project delivery with database analytics, mapping, profile comparison, PowerBI reporting enhancements and perform data integrity checks for ad-hoc, recurring, troubleshooting request and projects from SQL server.
  • Maintaining and improving the operations and process that support all reporting outputs:
    • Documented procedures for all operational and development processes
    • Controls framework across development and maintenance activities
    • User security protocols and processes
    • Version control, upgrade planning and testing
  • Escalate to Senior Manager for assistance and/or escalation purposes, to quickly analyze problems, resolve issues and provide recommendations to management regarding resolution.
  • Support Senior Manager, Innovation & Reporting on establishing and enhancing BI framework and standards and optimizing change management process.
  • Support and sustain BI features after release, prioritize fixes for defects, monitor report usage and identify value-add functionalities to improve adoption.
  • Capable of working on multiple activities simultaneously in a highly dynamic environment and capable of understanding complex requirements and meeting project deadlines
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook, and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Job Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on technical working experience with most of the following: SQL, SQL and dimensional data modelling, data visualization, data modeling, MS Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) and/or MS Power Query & UX standard methodologies are an asset.
  • 10+ years of hands-on technical working experience in writing business & user requirements to translate technical knowledge into business value.
  • Advanced experience in Python/R knowledge is an asset.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills across all levels within Scotiabank complemented by solid problem-solving skills.
  • Growth mindset with intellectual curiosity, proactiveness and passion for continuous learning
  • Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to build strategic relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to present complex information in a simplified way to various audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to design and interpret information/data required to monitor the performance of the operational risk functions are essential.
  • Prior experience supporting Operational Risk processes and metrics will be a plus.
  • Proven experience as a self-starter - ability to work independently with minimum supervision and use own initiative to identify practical solutions to resolve issues that arise.


Working Conditions

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
  • As a part of our Hybrid Work Model, when required to be onsite, our primary office in downtown Toronto is: 40 King Street West.
