Villa Saint-Joseph du Lac, located in Yarmouth NS, is home to 79 long-term care Residents. We are a provincially funded, non-profit organization that provides 24/7 care. Villa Saint-Joseph has a strong interprofessional team and a new facility (opened in 2015) which allows us to promote a safe, clean, home-like environment for our Resident and care partners.
Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of this position is to serve Residents by attending to their care needs throughout the day and evening and assisting Residents at meals and with a variety of daily living activities and simple pleasures according to individual interests and desires. The incumbent of this position is assigned to a Resident Villa and acts to foster a home-like environment for the Residents living in the Villa. All responsibilities are to be approached in a spirit of teamwork, within and among departments, to ensure cooperation and completion in an efficient manner. As with every role, the underlying responsibility is the care and safety of each Resident. As such, the tasks required in fulfilling the responsibilities of this shift and the day-to-day routines/schedules for completing these tasks, are secondary only to ensuring the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each Resident are met. Specific responsibilities are outlined below in the Key Result Areas. The incumbent of the shift is to work under the direction of the Mission Statement, Values, Standards, Policies and Procedures and Resident-Centered Care Philosophy of the Villa St Joseph du Lac.
Responsibilities:
•• LTCAs are responsible to have a sound understanding of their role and understand the boundaries of their role.
• Required to adhere to the guidance and coaching by CCAs, RNs and LPNs.
• Assist in admission and in-house transfers as directed by the Charge Nurse.
• Performs light housekeeping duties such as tidying residents' rooms and collecting the garbage, cleaning closets, hanging clothes, making beds, cleaning wash basins, dental care cups, caddies, personal items and cleaning wheelchairs and cushions.
• Report and document any changes in resident condition to RN/LPN immediately.
• Assist the CCA with bathing, personal care, transferring residents and feeding.
• Answers call bells and redirect when appropriate.
• Provides items of comfort, sitting with residents and having purposeful conversations etc.
• Assist residents to and from the dining area.
• Set up and clean tables in the dining areas.
• Assist with oral hygiene. LTCA's are not to perform oral care on residents who require full support or assistance. LTCAs can assist with denture care. If the resident is not able to remove dentures on their own LTCAs are accountable to seek assistance from a CCA.
• Clean tub after each use.
• Empty bedpans, urinals, and commodes.
• Assists and supports residents in programming such as, but not limited to, recreation programs.
• Attend education and other workshops as appropriate.
• Develop and maintain good public relations with residents, staff and visitors.
• Be familiar with the Emergency Response Binder.
• Has a commitment to staff and resident safety.
• Could be asked to perform 1:1 staffing for an individual resident.
• Go investigate when a floor alarm is ringing.
• Must be trained in WHIMS, Feeding with Sensitivity Training, PACE, Hand Hygiene and other courses as seen appropriate to this role.
