Our Team
Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Technical Service Student – Fall 2024 to join our Vale Newfoundland's and Labrador Operations Team in Long Harbour, NL. This is a 4-month fixed term position.
As a Process Engineering Student, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various projects and initiatives within the Vale Newfoundland and Labrador Technical Services team. From assisting with a wide variety of tasks related to technical and engineering support and process evaluation for the Long Harbour Processing Plant to leadership development, diversity & inclusion, and culture, you will have a holistic and enriching experience like no other. You will also gain a deeper understanding of our company and our sustainable approach to mining. Additionally, in this position, you will:
- Utilize Home Safe tools and exhibit behaviors of Home Safe.
- Support the implementation of a Continuous Improvement (Lean) mindset.
- Provide technical support to clients, to ensure the implementation and consolidation of the management model to achieve Operational Excellence (Basic Problem Solving – 5S, 5 Why, Deviation; Action plans; and Implement Routine Management – Daily meetings, KPIs breakdown, Deviation Analysis, etc.).
- Develop reporting tools to identify process improvement opportunities.
- Assist with projects to fix identified problems and process optimizations.
- Manage assigned projects in a manner that meets quality, time, and resource management requirements.
About You
Education:
- Currently enrolled as a student in Process Engineering (Co-op) Program
Skills:
- Ability to work with various groups to gather and access a large amount of technical information in the form of engineering specifications and drawings and vendor specifications and recommendations.
- Solid verbal, written and analytical communication skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal communication, analytical and problem-solving skills and a proven safety record are essential.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
- Flexible and adaptable mindset.
- Strong interpersonal mindset.
- Ability to create networks and relationships with stakeholders.
- Detail oriented.
