Title : Specialist - Human Resources Advisor in Emergencies

Salary Band : $32.70 /hour

In this role, you will :

  • Ensure standard practices and application of Employment Standards, Human Resources policies, procedures, as well as emergency response SOPs, Learning and Development solutions and response specific guidelines are implemented in a consistent, coherent manner.
  • Respond to inquiries from managers, employees and volunteers, provide advice and guidance, and address issues related to interpersonal conflicts, incidents, worker relations and investigations and intervene as required; support the preparation, management and execution of HR specific processes by responding to inquiries and follow up on issues related to learning path completion, tracking hours worked, resolving payroll issues and processing expense claims.
  • Collaborate with emergency response managers to understand staffing needs to meet service delivery expectations and communicate changes, gaps and forecasts.
  • Promote and support staff wellness and identify opportunities to improve the work environment, strengthen the sense of inclusion, implement strategies that promote wellness and individual empowerment; observe and communicate standard precautions for compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Actively participate in the planning of the HR team schedules; support and collaborate with them throughout the emergency response and establish work and reception areas for the HR team assigned to response sites.
  • Participate in KPI analysis, identify and address gaps in processes, communication tools, and service delivery and propose process improvement opportunities.
  • Contribute to the recruitment and engagement of HR emergency response team members and the ongoing update of local HR team response plans.

What we are looking for :

  • Three (3) years progressive experience as an HR Generalist, or equivalent experience. A combination of education and management experience would be considered. CHRP designation or working towards a designation is preferred.
  • Current knowledge and experience applying employment related legislation, HR best practice and/or volunteer best practices is preferred.
  • Fluency in French & English is strongly preferred.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills including facilitation, consultation, coaching and leading difficult conversations.
  • Ability to function effectively in a matrix environment balancing the expectations and needs of the operational, functional, and technical teams.
  • Strong ability for planning, organization, time management and priority setting skills; proven ability to work unsupervised and remotely.
  • Strong computer skills, with advanced knowledge of MS Office (or similar collaboration tools and platforms).
  • Ability to work effectively in high pressure and often ambiguous conditions.
  • Previous HR experience with the CRC is preferred.

Working conditions :

  • Some work is performed in a virtual office environment; therefore, the candidate must have reliable access to a private workspace, a computer, high speed internet and a telephone or work from a CRC office if applicable
  • Ability to work in in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, be on-call, work shifts, non-traditional and longer hours often on short notice including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Frequent meetings, training sessions or deployments (including overnight) will require attendance at CRC offices and an off-site meeting location.

The official languages recognized within the Canadian Red Cross are English and French however demonstrated skills and ability to communicate in an or multiple Indigenous language(s) or ability to communicate and adapt within Indigenous protocol is highly desirable.
