Our Team:

The Thompson Mines Technical Services (MTS) Team is integral to the success of the operations in being a safe and reliable producer. We aim to design and plan safe, sustainable ore extraction through technical excellence in the areas of geology, mine planning, ventilation, backfill, ground control, drill/blast, and survey control.

As part of the All-Mines Services Team, the iROC (Integrated Remote Operations Centre) will connect leaders and frontline workers across all of Vale's Canadian mines. Not only will the iROC team strengthen communications across our mining operations, iROC will also be a cornerstone in real-time data collection and analytics to support robust decision making in planning and execution. This 24/7 continuous data feed will drive agile action plans in real-time, improving shift productivity and adherence to plans. iROC will also improve safety by reducing emergency response time through enhanced locations awareness and by facilitating the active monitoring of hazards such as seismicity.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking iROC Operational Leads to join our Mines Technical Services team in Thompson, Manitoba. This is a permanent full-time position.

As the iROC Operational Lead you will monitor, develop, and support the execution of planned work across our integrated mining and processing operations by collecting and analyzing real-time data, prioritizing critical work and recovery plans, and assisting our Manitoba Operations workforce to drive our mining operations productivity safely.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Ensure the Manitoba operating sites are adhering to Vale's VPS business process standards, procedures and using system applications and tools in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Develop and issue shift plans and confirm resources available for shift activities with the frontline leaders.
  • Monitor the 24/7 progress of all in-shift activities including delays, equipment breakdowns, mine heading status and task start and end time. Interact and provide guidance to frontline leaders and frontline workers.
  • Prioritize and create action plans for the execution teams to achieve shift rotation and daily shift targets to drive plan compliance.
  • Work closely with the assigned plant leadership teams to react to unforeseen events by providing recommendations to priorities/planned work through iROC's real-time data to deliver of divisional results.
  • Understand the key stakeholders at the Manitoba Operations and engage them as directed by the iROC Management Operating System (MOS).
  • Escalate decisions or variances to plan to the necessary stakeholders.
  • Issue end of shift reports and metrics
  • Input work orders, mechanical breakdowns for in shift repairs and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with support groups for mine plan development and execution.
  • Ensure the planning, scheduling and execution processes at the plant sites follow the MOS and remain integrated with iROC resulting in safe mine productivity increases for our Vale North Atlantic Operations.
  • Responsible for integrity of data coming from the iROC.
  • Oversight for planned work, safety systems, data analytics and reporting, and understanding how core business activities impact safety, production, and cost at the Plant. Maintain and manage current and next shift schedule for crews based on progress and in shift variances, including the addition of urgent work.
  • Assist with emergency response procedures, including working along and fire response.
  • Monitor seismic systems, providing abnormal ground activity information and recommendation to the frontline crews.

About You

Education:

  • Batchelor degree or college diploma in a related discipline

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years of underground mining experience, planning and scheduling, logistics, maintenance, or supply chain management experience preferred.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to influence without authority.
  • Skilled in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect, communicate and problem solve with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products.
  • Ability to influence and promote the iROC culture within the organization.
  • Personal commitment to safety and risk management.
