EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

The Labrador-Grenfell Health Regional Nurse Retention Program is designed to prepare the novice registered nurse or new nurse graduate to work in the expanded role of Regional Nurse in the Rural Community Clinics and Health Centres. The mentorship program can span from 6-12 months depending on the registered nurses experience, education and skills. Upon successful completion of the mentorship program the registered nurse will qualify to work as a Regional Nurse I and will have the ability to provide preventative, promotive, supportive, rehabilitative, and curative interventions to clients. This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn advanced nursing knowledge, skills and decision-making while managing a generalized primary health care program. The successful applicant will work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team incorporating components of clinical practice, education, consultation, research and preceptorship. They are responsible for maintaining professional and organizational standards. During the mentorship program the registered nurse is accountable to the Clinical Nurse Manager; once the program is completed the Regional Nurse will report to the Regional Nurse II.
Qualifications:

" Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with a Nursing Diploma, or an approved University with a Bachelor of Nursing;
" Current registration with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador;
" Will be required to sign a return-in-service agreement;
" Class V Driver's license;
" Current health care provider CPR;
" Show strong leadership skills, have good time management; be committed; be able to work independently; show initiative and exercise considerable judgment in performing duties;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory code of conduct.
" A return in service agreement will be required.

Duties (Include but not limited to):

" Rotations may take place at any Labrador Grenfell Zone facility and will vary depending on skills required;
" Complete a variety of core competencies courses including but not limited to: ACLS, TNCC, NRP, and physical assessment;
" Demonstrate proficiency in the duties and responsibilities of the Regional Nurse I including: arranging and conducting primary clinics; assess, diagnose and prescribe in accordance with professional, provincial and organizational standards, policies and clinical practice guidelines; coordinate treatment plans based on ongoing assessments, client and family response and outcomes, consulting with physician if required care is outside of regional nurse scope of practice and competencies;
" Coordinate medical follow-up to include; providing referrals as appropriate; facilitating transition from hospital to community; and acting as a liaison between the client and various health care providers;
" Maintain quality assurance standards as per quality assurance binder; input and track nursing workload;
" Complete other duties as assigned; provide emergency on-call coverage (you may be required to work alone);
" Dispense medications in accordance with professional, provincial and organizational standards, policies and clinical practice guidelines;
" Learn the duties of the Regional Nurse II and provide relief for the Regional Nurse II;
" Complete and submit all documentation; attend a variety of progress meetings as set out by the program and be committed to a 3-12-month education and training program;
" May be required to provide relief in other sites.

Salary:
" NS-33 ($45.32 to $56.32), plus the applicable Labrador Allowance. Other benefits in accordance with the RNUNL Collective Agreement.

Hours of Work:
" 75 hours biweekly. Variable shifts. Variable on Call.

Enhanced Incentive:

" Successful applicants who are currently completing the 3rd or 4th year of an approved Nursing program are eligible to receive an enhanced incentive of both a Bursary and a Signing Bonus. A return in service agreement will be required.
