Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Central Engineering department provides design engineering services to the Newfoundland and Labrador Operations. The multi-discipline team consists of engineers, designers, and document controllers located in Long Harbour, Voisey's Bay, and St. John's, who are primarily responsible for developing design packages for repairs and OPEX/CAPEX funded modifications.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Piping Engineer to join our Central Engineering department in Long Harbour, NL. This is a permanent position.

This permanent position will be on a 4x10s schedule (Tuesday to Friday) working at the Long Harbour Operations site in Long Harbour, NL.

The Senior Piping Engineer will provide innovative engineering design solutions to operating and maintenance problems, technical support to operating plants and mines, technical direction to external engineering consultants & construction contractors and technical guidance and mentoring to other members of the Central Engineering team. The engineer will focus on work of their own discipline. Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Prepares engineering packages (i.e. drawings, specifications, scopes of work, risk assessments and cost estimates) for operations, maintenance, and capital projects, utilizing good engineering practices and considering risk, while minimizing costs.
  • Provides technical support to the operations and maintenance teams to ensure reliable operation of equipment and recommendations for safety when required under relevant Acts and Legislation.
  • Understands and can apply risk assessment and risk management processes.
  • Provides technical direction to construction contractors and assesses the quality of their work in the field.
  • Effectively schedules, prioritizes, and manages tasks to meet commitments with customers.
  • Has strong working knowledge with Piping design codes, acts, regulations (mainly ASME, API, and CSA standards). Experience with piping design, analysis, and repair of various types of equipment (pumps, storage tanks, pressure vessels, piping, etc.).

About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng)

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Work within mining and/or industrial facilities.

Skills:

  • Experience in a complex industrial setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Uses software for analysis.
  • Audits compliance of mechanical design codes, acts, regulations
  • Designs engineered solutions for mechanical projects and problems.
  • Applies practical experience with mine, mill and surface equipment to design packages.
