Description and Requirements

Family and Early Childhood West, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and funded by the Department of Education and Early Childhood. Reporting to the Reflective Supervisor and Regional Executive Director, successful applicants will be responsible to provide in-home family visits, Developmental Childcare Services, EYE-DA Screening and other types of programming with children from birth to eight years of age with moderate to high developmental delays, or who may be at risk due to family circumstances. Family Educators are responsible for direct interaction with children and their families to support their developmental needs. The pool of applicants may be considered for future vacancies.

Work location: Fredericton and possibly Woodstock

Qualifications:

· Work at this level requires competency gained through successfully completing a university degree in early childhood or related field from a recognized post-secondary institution, with relevant knowledge of child development related to infant and preschool children, children with developmental delays and families of young children; or,

· successfully completed post-secondary education in early childhood or in a related field from a recognized institution, in conjunction with 3 years of related experience with relevant knowledge of child development related to infant and preschool children, children with developmental delays and families of young children.

Essential Attributes include:

· Strong PEDAGOGICAL knowledge in early years development:

- has a thorough knowledge and understanding of early years growth and development, with recent research in various areas (brain development, emotional resilience, self-regulation, and importance of relationships and attachment, etc.)

- shows interest in continued learning in areas which benefit our team when working with families, such as speech and language development, physical growth patterns in the critical first years of life, or trauma experiences in the lives of young children and their families.

· Strong OBSERVATIONAL and INTERPERSONAL skills:

- possess an understanding of importance to observe, collect observations and information during home visits and relate/connect it to theoretical and educational core research in child development and early development,

- has interest in pursuing and developing observations and relating them to on-going developmental patterns being exhibited while exploring family dynamics, which can contribute to and/or greatly affect children's development in all areas of development, as well as being able to explain, as necessary to families and encourage further evaluations if necessary.

· Strong INTERPERSONAL skills:

- has training/experience in interacting/consulting with team professionals and providing critical pieces of information were needed, as well as has the ability and comfort level in interacting with a wide range of family dynamics,

- has a reliable and professional ability to communicate, verbally and written, considering important information portraying the child and their family in meaningful, representational, and accurate ways without overstepping our professional roles.

· Has interest and skills in NURTURING AND SUPPORTING children and adults:

- our role provides opportunities to nurture, support, and guide.

· Ability to LISTEN reflectively and actively:

- has experience and familiarity with family dynamics, various developmental disabilities, infant and toddler mental health, and adverse childhood experiences (ACE), as well as has a willingness to work with complicated medical conditions in children.

· Ability to MODEL appropriate teaching/parenting strategies

· Ability to work INDEPENDENTLY, as well as in a TEAM environment with the key stake holders, including Social Development.

· Hours of work are primarily 8:30am-4:00pm.

· The ability to TRAVEL in a RELIABLE vehicle within the School District is required.
