Pastoral Care Assistant
Summer Student (term 14 weeks)

Saint Vincent's Nursing Home is a 148-bed accredited not-for-profit nursing home on the Halifax peninsula. Our mission is to provide resident and family centred care by living our core values of caring, community, accountability, respect, and safety. We work together to create quality of life and support each other by recognizing individual physical, social, emotional, cultural, and spiritual needs. We currently have an opening for a summer student, 14-week term of employment, for a Pastoral Care Assistant.

Position Summary

Supervised by the Director of Resident Care and the Chaplain, the Pastoral Care Assistant will work with the Pastoral Care team in providing quality care by supporting the spiritual care of the resident through hymn sing, devotion and one to one visits.

Qualifications

  1. Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  2. Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
  3. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  4. Must be comfortable with spirituality as will be working with individuals who identify with various religions.
  5. Musical skills are considered an asset.
  6. Keen interest and experience working with the elderly is an asset.

Responsibilities

  1. Observe and practice all safety rules and regulations.
  2. Assist in implementing spiritual care programs and one to one visits with residents.
  3. Facilitate calls with family and residents through phone, FaceTime, Skype and/or Zoom.

Salary and Hours of Work

35 hours per week at $16.00 per hour.
