Recreation Therapy Assistant (2 positions)
Summer Student (term 14 weeks)
Saint Vincent's Nursing Home is a 148-bed accredited not-for-profit nursing home on the Halifax peninsula. We currently have two openings for a Recreation Therapy Assistant for a 14-week summer term of employment.
Position Summary
Supervised by the Director of Resident Care and the Recreation Therapists, the Recreation Therapy Assistant will work with the Recreation Therapy team in providing quality care through facilitating family calls, implementing programs and one to one visits with the residents.
Qualifications
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
- Working towards a diploma or degree in therapeutic recreation is an asset.
- Keen interest and experience working with the elderly is an asset.
Responsibilities
- Observe and practice all safety rules and regulations.
- Assist in implementing recreation programs and one to one visits with residents.
- Facilitate calls with family and residents through phone, FaceTime, Skype and/or Zoom.
Salary and Hours of Work
35 hours per week at $16.00 per hour.
