Summer Student Term Positions - Halifax Campus
Join the Northwood team this summer 2024!
We are looking for dynamic individuals to be a part of our team at the Halifax Campus for the following positions:
- Recreation Therapy Assistant
- Music Coordinator
- Mental Health Worker
All Positions Details:
Length of the term: 10 weeks - Part time positions
Number of hours: 60 - 70 hours bi-weekly (Varied Shifts - Days)
Salary: $16.30 per hour
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- Grade 11 or higher
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act(1). , and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
- Must have an interest in working in Long Term Care
RECREATION THERAPY ASSISTANT
- Must be a student taking Therapeutic Recreation at either the university or college level.
- Experience in the delivery of recreational/leisure programs with a senior population would be an asset
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- To assist seniors living in care to participate in daily therapeutic recreation programs including music and art based activities.
- To maximize resident opportunities to enjoy the outdoors through recreational programs in our outdoor spaces, 1:1 interventions.
- Based on the needs of the facility, the youth will assist in filling gaps arising from non-replaced staff vacations.

MENTAL HEALTH WORKER
- Minimum one-year experience working in a community-based environment or equivalent experience is required
- Mental Health experience considered an asset. Gardening knowledge.
Responsibilities:
- To provide hands on assistance with resident treatment programs. Help assist residents attending our outdoor gardens.

MUSIC COORDINATOR POSITION
- Ability to play musical instrument(s) and/or sing; Perform to small and large audiences; Event planning and facilitation
Responsibilities:
- Participate and support community recreation, and wellness programs
- Provide seniors with appropriate assistance and information to be able to participate in community gatherings, musical events, and small group music programs
- Plan and implement music group activities
- Perform for senior groups
