Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Long Harbour technical services team consists of a combination of process engineers, technicians, and analysts. The team is responsible for providing technical services support and guidance to the plant operation to optimize metal recoveries, production, product quality, plant efficiency, and throughout.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Process Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our Technical Services Department in Long Harbour, NL. This permanent position will be on a 4x10s schedule (Monday to Thursday OR Tuesday to Friday) working at the Long Harbour Operations site in Long Harbour, NL.

Assisting with a wide variety of tasks relating to both technical and operational support for the Long Harbour Processing Plant, the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) will study aspects of operational efficiency, quantify, and develop strategies for mitigating risk. Additionally, the EIT will perform analysis, troubleshooting, optimization, data collection, quality monitoring, performance evaluation, mass balance preparation and plant operation coordination.

In this position, you will:

  • Assist in the diagnosis of technical problems related to the plant's operation, and complete metallurgical test work to support recommendations;
  • Monitor plant system production performance and integrity; communicate with the various groups to ensure processes are in place to sustain and build production capability and to meet targets outlined in the business plan;
  • Coordinate plant operations and process to meet production goals and allow for maintenance of equipment;
  • Be knowledgeable about the Hydromet Process and be able to answer process questions as required;
  • Jointly plan and implement plant-wide improvements with operations, technical services and other support groups;
  • Demonstrate, predict and measure system strategies for effective, efficient and optimized performance;
  • Provide mentoring, training, and coaching to a very high standard to colleagues and operations;
  • Manage assigned projects in a manner that meets quality, time and resource requirements;
  • Design and implement experiments to aid in process optimization. Appropriate investigative techniques should be applied;
  • Ensure the applicable regulations and policies are understood and followed with respect to safety, health, and environment;
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations;
  • Work on assignments across functional departments, such as Business and Engineering, and Operations.

About You

Education:

  • An Undergraduate Degree in Chemical, Process, or Metallurgical Engineering is required.
  • Registration as an E.I.T is required.

Experience:

  • 1 - 2 years of experience in a similar role is an asset; however, new graduates are welcome to apply.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to build and maintain strong positive relationships across multiple groups
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
