Position Scope:
As a member of the management team an under the direction of the Manager of Support Services, the Food Service Supervisor will supervise frontline employees, oversee the daily operations including catering functions, and coordinate meal service delivery while maintaining a culture of safety. As part of the leadership team, the Supervisor helps ensure efficient and fiscally responsible foodservice operations and represents MMCG’s Resident Centered Care Philosophy. This position qualifies for Benefits though Health Association of Nova Scotia as well as Pension with NSHEPP.
Primary Responsibilities / Duties:
· Supervise the preparation and delivery of resident meals, snacks and catering events
· Prepare schedules and monitor employee attendance; replace staff as needed based on collective agreements
· Payroll functions
· Oversee implementation of quality controls to ensure safe, high quality foodservice operations
· Food safety audits to comply with provincial health and safety regulations
· Food product and supply ordering; receiving, storage and inventory control
· Menu development and adjustment as needed; maintenance of standardized recipes
· Creation and revision of standard operating procedures
· Employee education and guidance on: food safety, cleaning, and food preparation procedures
· Orientation of new staff to department, facility, organization
· Obtain stakeholder feedback and incorporate resolutions to ensure a positive mealtime experience
· Other related duties and administrative functions as required
Qualifications:
· Completion of a recognized course in Food and Nutrition Management or post-secondary degree in nutrition
· Completion of Food Handlers Course and WHMIS
· Experience in a food service environment or leadership and operations required
· Experience in a health care setting and unionized environment (preferred)
· Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, internet, and email
· Possess a high degree of self-direction, motivation, and team building skills
· Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience coaching in a unionized environment
· Demonstrated judgement, problem solving and decision making skills
· Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
· Demonstrated accountability (fiscal, quality improvement, food safety, effective use of food resources, policy implementation/creation of supportive environments for dining)
· People focused; demonstrated ability to build internal and external collaborative relationships; ability to obtain and respond to stakeholder needs
· Knowledge of and experience in the provision of foodservice that supports person-centered care
· Demonstrated conflict resolution skills and positive change management orientation

· Ability to prioritize, organize and manage time in a fast paced environment
· Ability to work outside a set schedule/beyond normal working hours as required
Hours of work
· Various 8 hour shifts, occasional weekends required
