The Nunatsiavut Housing Commission is the Public Agency responsible for Housing in Nunatsiavut. The NHC has the power to be involved in the construction, development, management, and operations of housing of all types within the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Area, from emergency shelters to affordable home rentals.

The NHC is particularly mandated to respond to the housing needs of Inuit who are vulnerable, meaning those living with addictions, homelessness, disabilities, violence in the home, or those who are on a fixed income or low-income, elders, youth, children in need of social protection, and families at risk of being separated from their children. Our programs are designed to meet the varied and complex needs of all Nunatsiavummiut, in all five Inuit communities.

Responsabilités
  • Oversees the establishment of the NHC Board of Commissioners.
  • Implement budget for the commission, including administrative, office and human resource requirements.
  • Work with Inuit Community Governments to establish Inuit Community Housing Committees.
  • Oversee the development of the NHC Website.
  • Oversee the overall management of the NHC including administration of programs, bylaws and policies.
  • Oversee hiring and administration of all NHC staff.
  • Establish and maintain a Nunatsiavut housing information system.
  • Responsible for Committee Management and Community Relations.
  • Remains current and informed on matters revolving housing policy, operations and other relevant topics.
  • Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Public Administration, Business Administration and 5-10 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience interacting and engaging with community members in a variety of settings.
  • Sound knowledge of housing programs, services, and conditions including land development in the Nunatsiavut region.
  • Considerable knowledge of governmental procedures and regulations as they relate to housing development, construction and the management of local Housing operations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of capital planning and budgeting, infrastructure development.
  • Bilingual in Inuktitut and English is considered an Asset.
