We currently have an opportunity for a Lead, National Transportation Business Development to join our National Transportation team based out of one of our office(s) in Stellarton - NS, Victoria - BC, Vancouver - BC, Calgary - AB, or Mississauga - Ont. In this role you will be the owner of the business development strategy and results (i.e. freight sales) for the Sobeys Managed Inbound Freight Program. This includes negotiating with the existing suppliers a pickup allowance and expanding the program to new suppliers.

Here's where you'll be focusing:

As a member of our National Transportation team with responsibility for leading the team of highly skilled specialists to procure carrier pricing for new MIF opportunities to evaluate profitability. You will work in a highly collaborative environment, developing relationships and partnering with peers, managers and Directors across the company to deliver goals in a fast-paced environment.

  • Lead a sales team consisting of a two specialists and an analyst within the national transportation team.
  • Owner of the business development strategy and results (i.e. freight sales) for the Sobeys Managed Inbound Freight Program. This includes negotiating with the existing suppliers a pickup allowance and expanding the program to new suppliers.
  • Train specialists on negotiation best practices and network design techniques to minimize freight spend.
  • Evaluate network opportunities to expand program to additional regions based on carrier and supplier reviews.
  • Design a relationship strategy with onboarded suppliers and design an onboarding strategy for newly added suppliers.
  • Design and maintain a visibility reporting suite that includes profitability, receivables, and supplier conversion.
  • Partner with Finance on MIF Sales Budget
  • Partner with Category Management on supplier MIF engagement
  • Partner with Replenishment to align transportation strategies with inventory management and service levels.

What you have to offer:

  • Minimum 8 years progressive management experience in inventory control, transportation/ supply chain experience including international freight experience
  • Relevant designation/ credentials in logistics, supply chain, and/ or transportation (CITT, CPIM or PMAC, ERP)
  • Experience within large retailers and large suppliers
  • Team management
  • Strong negotiator; Sales Oriented; Collaborative; Strong Communication; Financial Acumen
  • Experience using current logistics technology as it applies to transportation management
  • Experience selling freight & negotiating
  • Experienced with detailed financial management experience specifically P&L
