The Scotiabank Centre, managed by Events East Group, is the largest multipurpose facility in Atlantic Canada, serving as the region's premier venue for major entertainment and sporting events and the nucleus of major event activity in Nova Scotia. Having hosted the world's top performers, homegrown talent, best in class athletes and many performers in between, Scotiabank Centre has been a source for community vibrancy and pride for over 35 years. With a seating capacity of more than 10,000 and the versatility to accommodate a range of events, Scotiabank Centre hosts close to 500,000 attendees each year and is home to the Halifax Mooseheads, Halifax Thunderbirds Lacrosse and the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.


THE POSITION:

The Halifax Convention Center and the Scotiabank Centre managed by Events East Group is now inviting applications for the position of Event Systems Technician with our Technical Services team.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Event Technology, the Event Systems Technician is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of all technical services throughout Events East Group properties. This is a key role in the event delivery model of the Halifax Convention Centre and the Scotiabank Centre. The team member in this position is a creative, experienced professional who has a broad knowledge base of technology and is constantly learning and expanding that knowledge. The Event Systems Technician supports base building systems as well as event specific equipment to deliver high quality events that exceed our client's expectations. The team member in this position is heavily relied on by the operational teams to be friendly, dependable, and welcoming of all.


THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for day-to-day support and maintenance of Audio Visual, Lighting, Broadcast systems, telephony, event networking, digital signage and general system connectivity at the Halifax Convention Centre and Scotiabank Centre to ensure the highest level of event service delivery.
  • Work with the Manager of Corporate and Event Technology, Event Management, Finance and IT team and the Sales team to identify and co-ordinate technical services required for both internal and external events.
  • Follow and adhere to established health and safety guidelines, conduct monthly safety inspections, identifying, recording, rectifying hazards.
  • Support the Events East business plan by conducting work using practices that are aligned with Events East strategic goals and priorities.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with customers, partners, and third parties regarding event details.
  • Attend operation meetings and pre-convention meetings.
  • Communicate issues and concerns identified with reporting staff. Troubleshoot and act as required.
  • Handle all guest interaction in a friendly and courteous manner with the highest level of hospitality and professionalism.
  • Deploy and support technology as specified in the Event Management System, develop solutions for event specific technical requirements.
  • Planning and deployment of electrical power distribution for events.
  • Recognize and respect all departments and business units' contribution to the success of Events East.
  • Conform schedule to event timing requirements.
  • Perform system maintenance as scheduled and as required.
  • Participate in system training and certification as required.
  • Other job demands as required.

THE PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • A post-secondary education in Electronic Engineering Technician, or Broadcast AV is considered as an asset.

Experience:

  • at least 5 years of work experience in a similar role
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and outlook.

Physical Requirements:

  • Reaching, bending, kneeling and twisting on a regular basis while performing various tasks.
  • Stacking and unstacking equipment may be required.
  • Pushing and pulling carts equipment weighing over 200lbs.
  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 35lbs.
  • Ability to work comfortably at elevated heights.
  • Other physical demands as required.

  • Experience in the service industry and a general commitment to provide a high level of service.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Technical knowledge:

  • Electrical distribution systems.
  • Professional Audio Systems utilizing DSP.
  • ICT Networking.
  • Broadcast technology.
  • Theatrical and Architectural Lighting.
  • Staging and Rigging systems and practices.
  • Professional Visual technology.
  • Electricity characteristics and quantities.
  • Telephone systems.
  • Digital Signage systems.
  • The proven ability to lead high performance teams.
