Job Summary
This Clinical Physiotherapist II position is responsible for providing specialty physiotherapy assessment, interventions, consultation and education in a number of plastic surgery clinics, as well as interventions for those patients from plastics clinics who require follow-up physiotherapy care. The patient population is mainly acute in nature and includes those who are postoperative elective hand and wrist surgeries (eg, carpal tunnel release, palmar fasciectomy, reconstruction of wrist ligaments) as well as those with traumatic hand injuries (fractures and tendon/ligament/nerve injuries and repairs) as well as ambulatory burns. The caseload is high volume with high turnover of patients. Work is performed independently in close association with the plastics team (surgeons, medical students/residents, occupational therapists nurses and orthopedic technologists).

This Clinical Physiotherapist II position plays a key leadership role in the Ambulatory Care Program. As the PT III works across both Ambulatory Care sites, this position is responsible for supporting the PT III at the HSC site in directing the activities of the Outpatient physiotherapy practice and Specialty Clinics. This Clinical PT II position may orient, evaluate and mentor staff as well as participate in program evaluation and quality initiative activities of the Program. This position also acts as the provincial physiotherapy expert in the burns and plastics area and as such provides advice/information to physiotherapists across the province on an as needed basis.

Supervision and delegation to Physiotherapy Support Workers is an expectation. The PT will be responsible to precept physiotherapy students and offer other clinical education experiences to students within NLHS Eastern Urban Zone . This position reports to the Division Manager of Ambulatory Care, receives clinical support from the Clinical Practice Leader (PT III) Ambulatory Care Program and maintains accountability to the Physiotherapy Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and professional practice issues.

Job Demands

Regularly requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
Regularly required to bend, kneel, stretch and physically lifting, pushing, pulling and/or maneuvering patient/clients with medium force.
Occasionally uses hand tools and equipment.
Time pressures and interruptions are experienced with little control over work pace.
Higher than normal levels of attentiveness/alertness is required when performing activities for the orthopedic client with complex medical conditions.

Job Qualifications
Graduation from an approved/recognized school of Physiotherapy is required.
Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physiotherapists (NLCP) is required.
A minimum of three years' experience within the last five working as a Clinical Physiotherapist with an adult orthopedic outpatient population including experience with hands is required.
Successful completion of a post entry education course in Orthopedic Level II - Upper Quadrant (or equivalent as determined by NLHS) is required.
Demonstrated effective communication, both verbally and in writing with co-workers, patients and their families in both a one-on-one and/or group environment.
Effectively translated and communicated knowledge in the specialized area of physiotherapy practice to others.
Possessed proven leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to provide supervision, coaching, mentorship and training to physiotherapists, physiotherapy support workers and students.
Ability to prioritize caseload and patient needs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interprofessional team.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.

*The successful applicant must be willing to complete approved courses in Hand Therapy at the first available opportunity. The course must be completed within two years of commencing the position. Financial support may be provided by the employer.
