Are you interested in an impactful role at the intersection of tax, pensions/benefits and employment law that uses your legal skills but is broader than the practice of law?

Taxation of compensation and benefits (also known as executive compensation) is a fascinating area that draws upon skills from many disciplines. At EY, executive compensation is part of a broad- based service to clients which includes not only tax but also related strategic HR advice.

Types of work you will be doing

  • Analysing the tax treatment of compensation and deferred income arrangements to ensure that they are compliant with applicable law;
  • Advising on the treatment of compensation arrangements in the context of mergers and acquisitions; and
  • Advising on the tax treatment of cross border pension arrangements and non-resident trusts; and
  • Assisting clients facing audits by the Canada Revenue Agency and provincial ministries of finance.

The opportunity

This role is part of EY Law LLP but is integrated within EY's People Advisory Services which is a multi-disciplinary integrated team of lawyers, actuaries, human resource, and tax professionals providing specialized services in the areas of pensions, benefits, HR, tax and compensation.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • An LL.B, JD or equivalent;

  • Minimum of 1 year post call experience in either taxation law, employment law, or pensions/benefits combined with an interest to specialize in taxation of compensation and benefits;

  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to apply these skills to a new environment and new projects;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
