Job Summary
The Recreation/Development Specialist II is primarily responsible for providing leadership and planning for comprehensive Therapeutic Recreation Services for residents. The Recreation/Development Specialist II is a member of the Interdisciplinary team and is responsible for the development, planning, organization, supervision and evaluation of comprehensive and individual Therapeutic Recreation Services. This role uses extensive knowledge and skills gained through experiences in Therapeutic Recreation to address the needs of residents. The incumbent will maintain an active clinical caseload.
The Recreation/Development Specialist II (Clinical Leader) is also responsible for directing the activities of the practice area; consulting and advising Therapeutic Recreation staff and other team members in the area of clinical expertise and the clinical supervision of recreation specialists and recreation therapy workers in the program. The Recreation Specialist is a member of the interprofessional care team and is responsible for the development, planning, organization, supervision, and evaluation of comprehensive and individual Therapeutic Recreation Services. Using the Leisure Ability Model the RDS will provide Functional Interventions, Leisure Education and Recreation Participation. The RDS will use the APEID process of Assessment, Implementation, Evaluation and Documentation to ensure a collaborative, person centered and goal-oriented approach. The Recreation Development Specialist will actively participate in education development and provide education to team members, patients, caregivers, community partners and stakeholders
The incumbent reports to the Resident Care Manager/Site Lead/TR Manager and maintain accountability to the Regional Professional Practice Consultant for integrity and professional practice issues.

Regularly required visual concentration when assessing clients.
Regularly has time pressures and deadlines to complete assessments and reports.
Job Qualifications
Graduation with an approved/recognized Baccalaureate degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation with major course work in Therapeutic Recreation is required.
Current certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) is required.
A minimum of three years' experience within the last five working as a Recreational/Development Specialist in Long-term Care is required.
Extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of assessment, assessment tools, program design/protocols, patient/client/resident care plans, clinical documentation, therapeutic interventions/facilitation techniques, leadership, supervision, workload measurement and group dynamics is essential.
Demonstrated competencies in problem solving and program planning.
Ability to be self-motivated and ability to work both collaboratively and with a high degree of independence and initiative
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills.
Proven leadership and supervisory abilities.
Ability to demonstrate a positive, respectful and sensitive approach to the needs of the patients/clients/residents.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
Possession of a class IV driver's license and satisfactory drivers abstract will be required depending on the need of the site.
