Pathology, James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, Gander

Definition of work: The pathology department at the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre provides anatomic and clinical laboratory services to the region. The General Pathologist position involves service provision in anatomic pathology and provision of leadership in one or more areas of laboratory practice including quality teams. This position requires strong diagnostic skills in surgical and cytopathology, as well as familiarity with and an interest in dermatopathology. The successful physician must work in a team-based, client-focused environment, and partner with all team members to improve employee and patient safety by integrating safe work practices, identifying risk and implementing improvements when required. In addition, it is essential that the successful physician exhibit excellent communication skills, collaborate collegially and effectively with colleagues, lab staff and other medical professionals, and provide a strong commitment to high quality patient and physician services. Responsibilities may also include opportunities to take on leadership opportunities within Central Health which could include, but is not limited to acting as Deputy Chief and/or Department Chief.

Required qualifications:
* Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent
* Eligible for registration and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador
* Satisfy credentialing requirements of Central Health
* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
* A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority
* Doctor of Medicine
* Experience is an asset

Hours of work: 75 hours bi-weekly-plus on-call obligations
Salary: $1335 per day for 56 days, then 1258.75 per day or Fee-for-Service (as per the Memorandum of Agreement and Dept of Health MCP billings) Potential for additional compensation for work in leadership role within Central Health.
Benefits: Some (not all) expenses related to travel, accommodations, locum licensing fee, meals and malpractice insurance will be paid for by the health authority, as agreed upon by all parties.
Location: The physician may also be required to work out of the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre at 50 Union Street in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL from time to time.
