Regional Adult Echocardiographer Diagnostic Imaging Technology III
Temporary Call In
Location: To Be Determined

Reporting to the Lead Diagnostic Imaging Technologist IV, this position is responsible to perform diagnostic echocardiograms (cardiac ultrasound) and diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with accepted policies and procedures - Cardiac Diagnostics Unit, Echo Lab, Health Sciences Centre and the Diagnostic Imaging standards and the policies and procedures of Labrador Grenfell Health.

Qualifications:

" Graduation from an approved course in Diagnostic Medical Sonography;
" Graduation from an approved course in Radiological Technology;
" Clinical training/instruction in echocardiography (as a subspecialty of Diagnostic Ultrasound) and/or completion of a 6 month program in Cardiac Sonography;
" Must be registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, (ARDMS), or with the Sonography Canada as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (CRGS) and must maintain registration on an ongoing basis;
" Must be registered with Sonography Canada as a Cardiac Technologist, (CRCS -AE), and must maintain registration on an ongoing basis;
" Must be registered with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists, CAMRT, and must maintain registration on an ongoing basis;
" Experience in ultrasound procedures and general radiography techniques in an accredited health care facility;
" Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, hazards, and techniques of the Diagnostic Imaging Department, skill in the use of all ultrasound equipment and radiology equipment, and in the performance of required examinations;
" Satisfactory Code of Conduct.

Duties:

" Performs a variety of complex and highly specialized diagnostic echocardiograms (cardiac ultrasound) by producing, assessing and evaluating ultrasound images and Doppler hemodynamic data of the heart, to assist the cardiologist with diagnosis and evaluation of patients with suspect or known cardiovascular disorders;
" Operates cardiac ultrasound equipment by utilizing high frequency sound waves to visualize and identify normal or abnormal anatomy of the adult heart;
" Performs m-mode, 2D and Doppler echocardiography on both Inpatients and Outpatients, ensuring selection of the appropriate acoustic window to obtain an optimal diagnostic scan;
" Selects relevant echocardiographic data, makes quantitative calculations from this data and communicates impressions to the cardiologist;
" Provides a safe, private and confidential environment for all patients, assisting with maintaining patient composure and confidence in a stressful environment, through reassurance and instruction;
" Performs General Ultrasound Exams, which includes and not limited to Abdominal Ultrasound, Obstetric Ultrasound, Pelvis, and Small Parts Ultrasound procedures, Vascular Ultrasound, and Biopsy and guidance Ultrasound as required;
" Working with a Provincial PACS imaging system, quality controls all of the images in each exam done by the incumbent, and verifies all patient demographics are correct before verifying every exam and the images to the Provincial PACS Long and Short Term Storage;
" Protects the confidentiality of patient information and abides by the rules and regulations of the Labrador Grenfell Health Region, which are reflected in its philosophy, policies and procedures;
" Safety is a priority for Labrador Grenfell Health. All staff (and volunteers) must/are responsible to ensure that safety for patients/residents/clients, coworkers and themselves is paramount in the workplace;
" other related duties as required.

Salary:

" LX-33 of the NAPE LX salary scales, $36.28 to $45.67 per hour.

Hours of Work:

" 70 hours biweekly
