St. Clare's Mercy Hospital is a 209 bed adult acute care hospital. It has an active volunteer program with volunteers providing services in a variety of ways to enhance the health care and service provided to our patients. We are currently seeking volunteers interested in helping with our patient hair washing program.
The objective of this position is to provide hair washing services to interested surgery patients. Eastern Health expects all volunteers to be mature, caring and compassionate individuals. Volunteers should have effective and courteous verbal and non-verbal communications skills; be self-motivated with a willingness to be part of a team and be comfortable and confident interacting with post-operative patients in a busy healthcare environment. Basic hair styling knowledge would be an asset.
This is a Saturday morning only volunteer position. Orientation to Eastern Health will be provided as well as training specific to the duties associated with this role. Health screening and a certificate of conduct are also required.

Orientation: An orientation to Eastern Health will be provided by the Coordinator of Volunteer Resources. An orientation to the assigned area will be provided by the unit or area staff or designate as required. All volunteers are required to attend these orientation sessions prior to beginning any volunteer assignment.
Training: Additional training for this assignment will be provided as required by designated staff.
Attire: Comfortable and professional clothing, volunteer uniform (if provided) and Eastern Health issued identification badge.
Evaluation: Your open and honest feedback about your volunteer experience is encouraged. Consult the coordinator for Volunteer Resources about your experience, expectations and concerns.
Safety: Safety is a priority for Eastern Health. Volunteers must ensure that safety for patients, residents, clients, employees and themselves is paramount in the workplace. Any and all safety concerns must be reported to the unit staff or the coordinator for Volunteer Resources immediately.
