REDS Operations

The Faculty of Kinesiology Non-Academic Unit at the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton campus) are united under one common banner and brand, known as the UNB REDS. It encompasses athletics, recreation, and operations (facilities, finance, client services, events, communications, marketing, and sales).

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Assistant Director of REDS Operations, the Pool Coordinator is accountable for daily operations of the Sir Max Aitken Pool such as regular pool maintenance, supervision and training of lifeguards and staff, and the scheduling of the pool.

  • Responsible for the daily operations of the Sir Max Aitken Pool, including regular maintenance, pool chemistry checks and adding chemicals, monthly chemical audits, and regular purchases of pool chemicals.
  • Hire and train aquatics staff, ensuring certifications and training credentials are up to date and current.
  • Responsible for approving aquatic staff hours.
  • Schedule aquatics staff ensuring proper coverage for smooth daily operations of the pool.
  • Supervise staff on-deck and lifeguards on a weekly basis.
  • Record and report all issues as it relates to the pool.
  • Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of the pool deck, locker room, storage rooms, and offices.
  • Follow all facility opening and closing procedures.
  • Organize and participate in all staff training events (i.e. in-service training).
  • Perform other related duties as required.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Post Secondary Education in Recreation or a related field.
  • Three (3) years' experience directly related to aquatics.

Additional Strengths

  • A bachelor's degree in recreation is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience dealing with the public.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid and NLS certification.
  • Must have current Water Safety/Lifeguard Instructor certification and trainer certification.
  • Knowledge of pool operating systems.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in the operation of circulation, filtration, heating, electrical and plumbing equipment associated with large swimming pools.
  • Knowledge of chemicals and their practical applications to maintaining water quality and sanitary decks.
