Under the supervision of the Regional Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Specialist will act as a generalist and will need to manage Human Resources activities in order to contribute to the effective course of operations in a unionized environment. The successful candidate will provide coaching for management in order to provide them the tools to attain their organizational and business objectives. Furthermore, he or she will manage and provide expert advice on a variety of topics including: employee compensation and benefits, health and safety, Worker's compensation, employee recognition programs, labour relations, workplace accommodations and attendance management. He or she will also participate in a variety of HR projects.
This position is based at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Enfield, Nova Scotia.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assist the management team with the handling of performance and employee fidelity within a unionized environment;
- To assist the Regional Human Resources Director in the implementation and application of programs, policies, plans and processes, and to serve as a source of advice to management and staff as to their interpretation and application;
- Provides consultation and advice to assigned functional areas on human resource management issues and activities;
- Collaborates with management to drive business results by using and enabling employee capability, organizational productivity and engagement;
- Conduct internal investigations as necessary; including drafting appropriate questions and follow up;
- Ensures awareness and compliance with policies, practices and employment legislation;
- Preparation and analysis of various HR metrics and reports;
- Attendance management application and distribution of applicable discipline;
- Disability management and Return to Work coordination;
- Manage the full cycle of recruitment;
- Contribute to the development of a dynamic organization.
Qualifications:
- University Degree in Human Resources or Industrial Relations;
- Three to five (3-5) years of pertinent experience in a unionized environment;
- Familiar with and can apply applicable Federal legislation;
- Dynamic, enthusiastic, and professional;
- Comfortable working under pressure, as well as multi-tasking.
- Strong communication skills with a tactful approach to conflict resolution;
- Client oriented, and comfortable in an advisory role.
- Easily creates interpersonal relationships;
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, coordinate, and manage multiple activities;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Demonstrated professional maturity and ability to handle confidential information;
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
- Strong sense of urgency to complete tasks;
- Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high quality work;
- Be willing to undergo extensive security and reference checks;
- Bilingualism an asset;
- Must hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency status.
