NOTE: This is a temporary position ending May 15, 2025, open to internal candidates only.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Foundational Learning, the position oversees the development, piloting, and launch of online curriculum and assessment for the Government of Canada's new Skills for Success framework. The position will work as part of multidisciplinary team to design, evaluate, produce, and deliver end-user learning and assessment tools delivered in an online environment. The incumbent will also act as a Subject Matter Expert related to media elements of the project. The work will result in the creation of a 20-hour asynchronous online Skills for Success training program and supporting resources on how to use the resource.

Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:

Instructional Design

  • Establishes learning objectives and create innovative resources (curriculum, training, assessment) that meet client's needs.
  • Works with media developers or similar to create interactive online resources.
  • Participates as a subject matter expert on use of media for the project.
  • Plans and delivers workshops, courses, seminars, etc. (face-to-face and online).
  • Creates and delivers train-the-trainer programs.
  • Develops and promotes resources in curriculum development, educational technology and instructional skills.
  • Develops learning objectives and instructional responses to achieve learning objectives.
  • Works with SMEs to create content, including lessons, interactive activities, and assessments to improve skills and measure learning.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the tool and implements feedback to ensure content aligns with stakeholder needs.
  • Oversees the media design in collaboration with ITS, the end-user website that will host the learning program.
  • Scripts and oversees the development of video and audio content.
  • Oversees the creation of online learning objects for the project team.
  • Oversees the process of beta-testing the program to ensure ease of use, seamless navigation, etc.

Provides Quality Instruction in Courses as Assigned

  • Instructs courses as assigned in foundational literacy, numeracy, writing, and digital skills for those with low educational attainment/skills gaps; professional development courses on teaching foundational literacy, numeracy, writing, and digital skills.
  • Develops and updates curriculum, manuals and guides as requested.
  • Evaluates learner performance on an ongoing basis and provides learners and administrators with learner progress reports.
  • Develops suitable assessment criteria.

Required qualifications:

  • 4-6 years of related experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in related area; Master's Degree is preferred
  • Experience with developing online instructional resources
  • Use of learning technologies including a learning management system and web-conferencing
  • Experience with the Government of Canada's Essential Skills Framework
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered
