About the Insurance Council

The Insurance Council of British Columbia is the regulatory organization that licenses and regulates the activities of over 50,000 life and general insurance agents, general insurance salespersons, insurance adjusters, and restricted travel insurance agents in British Columbia.

What You'll be Doing

An important part of the Insurance Council of British Columbia's ("Insurance Council") responsibilities is to oversee various educational requirements, including qualifying examinations.
To assist in providing this service, Insurance Council utilizes examination invigilators on an as required basis.

Examination invigilators are responsible for invigilating a variety of examinations and preventing examinees from cheating. Other responsibilities of an examination invigilator include but are not limited to ensuring a safe and orderly environment, setting up the test room, recording attendance and assisting and taking direction from Insurance Council staff pertaining to examination matters.

*This is a contract role on an as-needed basis.*

Responsibilities

  • Assist Insurance Council Examination staff with checking in and seating examinees
  • Organize, distribute and collect all test materials as directed by Insurance Council Examination staff
  • Set-up and take-down of exam room. Arrange tables and chairs to match Insurance Council's exam room set-up, and rearrange the room to its original state at the end of the day.
  • Interact professionally with examinees
  • Maintain a professional and pleasant atmosphere to create an environment for optimal test performance for all examinees
  • Monitor the exam room and examinees at all times to ensure compliance of the exam rules
  • Maintain test security to ensure confidentiality, integrity of test materials, and test procedures
  • Audit exam materials to ensure all exam materials have been returned from examinees
  • Lift or transport test materials to/from Insurance Council office from/to Exam room
  • Ensure exam materials are properly stored and ready for the next exam session
  • Perform sanitation duties in-between every exam sitting to protect examinees
  • Ensure all examination papers and materials have been collected and returned in good order.
  • Make clear and uphold Insurance Council's exam rules, and complete an incident report if there is a violation
  • Be vigilant, and be seen to be vigilant when monitoring the exam room
  • Assist and/or take direction from Insurance Council Examination staff with any other test administration matters

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must know how to use a tablet and feel comfortable assisting others
  • Basic skills in navigating a laptop or desktop computer
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Trustworthy, conscientious, reliable and punctual
  • Upholds the confidentiality and integrity of examinations
  • Takes initiative when responding to unexpected situations
  • Sensitivity in dealing with examinees from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Physically able to cope with extended periods of pacing, standing or sitting and light furniture movement
  • Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor at all times
  • Post-secondary degree or higher is preferred
  • Experience working in a university or school setting is an asset
  • Experience with examination invigilation is an asset
