Position Summary

As a Skilled Labourer you will be responsible for taking on a wide variety of labour and skilled construction tasks, such as cement work, basic carpentry, demolition, slab prep, and clean up. You will operate and maintain tools and equipment, train general labourers and apprentices, and be relied upon to provide input for solutions to site issues.

Ventana site locations are spread across the Greater Vancouver area so site locations may vary.

As a Skilled Labourer your key accountabilities will involve:

  • Clean the site by removing debris and sorting materials and recyclables appropriately.
  • Set up work areas for tradespeople in advance.
  • Hand dig trenches, holes, pits, ditches, and clean-cut footings.
  • Perform skilled site tasks including grading, basic carpentry, demolition, and cement, rebar, and deficiency work.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and coordinate with supervisor if replacement or service required.
  • Maintain site fencing and keep site perimeters clean and safe.
  • Perform water control, including pumping, drain maintenance, berms, and basin cleanout as required.
  • Set up scaffolding and ensure it is safe for use.
  • Operate mobile equipment as qualified and directed.
  • Set up and maintain heaters, fans, and general ventilation on site.
  • Receive and unload deliveries.
  • Provide guidance to workers as directed by supervisor.
  • Traffic Control – if certifications are in place and current.
  • Complete and follow a field-level hazard assessment before completing tasks on site.
  • Report all injuries, incidents or unsafe working conditions to their direct supervisor or site HSE coordinator as soon as possible.
  • Report public or client concerns to their direct supervisor immediately.
  • Assist site team with other labour and carpentry duties as assigned.

As a Skilled Labourer your success is dependent on:

  • The ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • The ability to build solid long-lasting relationships
  • The ability to anticipate problems and solve proactively
  • Close attention to detail, are observant
  • You have a high degree of professionalism and maturity
  • You have strong time management skills, particularly the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks
  • Able to problem solve with a strong technical mindset


As a Skilled Labourer your experience and qualifications will include:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the construction industry, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Solid understanding of construction processes and ability to, with minimal direction, complete their assigned tasks on the project and even direct others.
  • Be physically capable of meeting the job demands, including working on your feet for 8 hours or more, lifting objects weighing up to 55lbs, and carrying out physical tasks over extended periods.
  • Drivers License and access to a vehicle is an asset.
  • Valid Safety Tickets are an asset.
  • Basic carpentry skills are an asset.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada for any employer.
