Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced full-time Project Manager for our Fish Tracking Business Unit at our Bedford location. Reporting to the Group Product Manager, you will use your strong mix of technical, communication, and collaboration skills to work with Innovasea's expert cross-functional product development teams to plan and manage the Fish Tracking business unit's Product Development Process, ensuring timely completion of development phase gates and on-schedule product launches to market. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of sustainable fisheries and environmental monitoring, bringing cutting-edge hardware and software solutions for aquatic science to researchers worldwide.

Canada's Ocean Supercluster HydroAware technology project, led by Innovasea, is aimed at developing and commercializing the next generation of Fish Tracking technology, advancing reliability of fish monitoring in harsh marine environments and providing remote real-time insights into fish movements around hydropower facilities. As Project Manager for this project, you will additionally be accountable for project deadlines, identifying and reporting risk areas, reporting status and progress to Innovasea's executive team, and managing communications with key project stakeholders, including various government bodies and Innovasea's scientific and industry partners. You will play a key role in successfully seeing the HydroAware project through to completion in March 2026.

Primary areas of responsibility include

  • Working with Product Management, R&D, Manufacturing, and other departments to plan and schedule the Fish Tracking Business Unit's new product introductions and product modification activities
  • Coordinating the Fish Tracking Business Units Product Development Process, overseeing the planning, execution, control and closing of a portfolio of projects and ensuring timely completion of development phase gates and on-schedule market release of new products
  • Engaging with product development teams to develop project management plans, including master project schedules, cross-functional dependencies, capacity planning, and project risk registers
  • Engaging with product development teams to manage project work and ensure on time and quality delivery of project milestones and deliverables
  • Engaging with product development teams to manage project risks, identifying risks items and developing and executing corresponding risk response actions at appropriate times during the project
  • Engaging with product development teams to ensure resource availability and allocation to tasks and projects
  • Tracking project plan deliverables, schedules, and milestones and reporting project progress to team members, internal stakeholders, and senior leaders
  • Implementing and owning project management tools, providing visibility, and reporting as needed to multiple management levels within the organization
  • Organizing and leading cross-functional project team meetings, including kickoff meetings, daily standups, weekly/biweekly syncs, and milestone meetings as needed
  • Working with product development teams to prevent bottlenecks, resolve issues and drive corrective actions
  • Facilitating cross-team communication, ensuring that projects are running smoothly and maintaining synchronicity among development teams and other internal stakeholders
  • Working with Product Management, R&D, Manufacturing, and other departments to bring the HydroAware project to a successful conclusion
  • Managing project change requests through a change management process
  • Managing and continually communicating with key project stakeholders, including government bodies, Innovasea's industry and scientific partners
  • Measuring project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques to permit accurate and timely reporting of program status throughout its life cycle
  • Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation to meet the requirements of the project funding stakeholders
  • Reporting project progress and status to the project's steering committee as well as to Innovasea's executive team
  • Ensuring project compliance with the project contribution agreement
  • Escalating issues as appropriate in a timely fashion to internal and external stakeholders
  • Using appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in scope, schedule, and costs

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience managing a portfolio of projects in a high-tech industry
  • Proven track record overseeing the planning, scheduling, and execution of new product introductions from market requirements phase through to market launch phase
  • Advanced project planning and management skills including project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team of highly qualified people by influence and by example
  • Ability to pick up new technologies quickly, to help anticipate problems and solutions before they occur
  • Excellent time management skills to keep product development activities on schedule
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with colleagues to resolve issues as they arise
  • Strong client-facing and internal communication skills, written and oral
  • Exceptional organizational skills required to keep track of multiple complex moving pieces across multiple projects
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to remove roadblocks as they arise and keep projects moving forward
  • Adaptability required to be flexible and make adjustments as necessary

Education

Bachelor's degree, preferably in a business field and PMP certification or equivalent.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience working in Ocean Technology or other technology sector
  • Experience with Atlassian's JIRA and Confluence applications
  • Product Management or other market-facing experience
  • Experience in product development, product manufacturing, and design for manufacturing
