House Coordinator

Huronia Transition Homes is an equity seeking organization working to end all violence against all women. We work to educate ourselves and our communities on issues of oppression and liberation, to create social change. We provide essential services to women in our communities who have experienced violence.

One of our programs, La Maison Rosewood Shelter, an emergency shelter for women fleeing violence and/or experiencing homelessness, is currently seeking a detailed-oriented person to join our team as full-time, permanent House Coordinator. The successful candidate for this position will work primarily from our Midland office and will report directly to the Facilities Manager.

Essential functions include:

  • Prepare healthy meals for women and children in shelter;
  • Plan and prepare monthly food menu for residents in shelter;
  • Maintain grocery lists and perform weekly grocery shopping with support of the Program Supervisor – Shelter Services;
  • Ensure working order of all equipment and appliances in kitchen;
  • Perform regular inspection of facilities and equipment, notify Facilities Manager of any needs and repairs;
  • Participate in ongoing grounds upkeep and maintenance;
  • Wash, disinfect, dust, and vacuum all common areas including kitchen, dining room, washrooms and board rooms;
  • Empty garbage & recycling, organize weekly recycling and garbage pickup;
  • Ensure proper discharge of bedrooms including cleaning, disinfecting and restocking of supplies;
  • Organize and restock inventory as required;
  • Understand and work using Universal Precautions;
  • Attend to Health & Safety issues as they arise

The successful candidate must possess:

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Passion for food and nutrition
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to work with, and be sensitive to, the women we serve
  • Ability to stand for 4-8 hours a day, bending and physically moving
  • WHIMIS and CPR/First Aid
  • Food Handler Certification
  • Valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle.

The successful candidate must be able to strictly follow all Health & Safety policies and procedures that are in place, and work and respond respectfully in a busy, multi-tasking environment.
