Eligibility requirements

This position is partially funded by the Canada Summer Jobs fund. In order to be considered for this job you must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment contract;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment (student visas do not qualify); and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Basic Responsibilities:

Youth in this role will work as part of the Toward Common Ground team as a Research Assistant. Tasks may include:

  • Gathering, analyzing, and communicating qualitative and quantitative data, supporting focus groups and/or key information interviews.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of program evaluation frameworks.
  • Collecting and compiling published literature and supporting literature reviews.
  • Managing logistics related to collaborating (including setting meetings, setting agendas, taking and distributing minutes, supporting follow-up actions).
  • Supporting knowledge mobilization and data visualization: summarizing local data and information and contributing to communications and/or social media plans.

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate education in relevant field (e.g., health sciences, social work, psychology)
  • Training in and/or experience conducting literature reviews and secondary research
  • Training in and/or experience conducting primary research and program evaluation
  • Basic qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience presenting to diverse audiences
  • Knowledge of the social determinants of health and health equity
  • Experience taking minutes
  • Ability to multitask
  • High level of confidentiality
  • Work well as part of a team
  • Understanding of how to use social media as a communication tool is an asset
