Salary:

As an integral member in the Structural Division, as a Senior Structural Engineer with a construction background, you will be required to operate in a Project Manager capacity and liaise with clients to ensure all projects are run effectively and efficiently. You will write reports, preparing drawings, estimates, and proposals and bring strong knowledge of structural engineering methodologies, specifically for construction services.

This position involves performing inspection work, mentoring junior staff and providing expertise on timber engineering. This role must be able to assess the behavior of constituent materials, components, and assemblies; the performance of structural systems under structural and environmental loading and demand; engineering design of wood structures; and behavior of wood structures under extreme loads.

Duties

  • Perform structural analysis and design for a variety of municipal, residential, commercial, and industrial projects, including existing buildings and structures.
  • Complete structural calculations and prepare and edit structural specifications.
  • Conduct seismic assessments and upgrades of existing buildings and structures.
  • Reviewing and checking engineering calculations prepared by others.
  • Design and develop engineering strategies for timber engineering.
  • Liaise with clients and determine client requirements to complete projects.
  • Support senior staff on larger projects including:
    • Detailed analysis and design
    • Inter-discipline coordination
    • Assist with project reporting.
  • Coordinate and guide technical staff in the preparation of contract drawings and documents and other work tasks.
  • Coordinate structural designs and documents with other disciplines (Architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and landscaping, etc.)
  • Provide structural engineering support during construction, attend site meetings, and carry out field reviews.
  • Participate in the development of quality production and service standards and liaise with other office locations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience, skills and qualifications.

Required

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA or EGBC
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience in the construction industry as a Professional Engineer
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with emphasis on structural analysis and design
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading a project from start to finish.
  • Familiarity with structural design programs such as SAFE, ETABS, SAP, etc.
  • Self-starter and team player.
  • Knowledge of precast concrete and timber design
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A valid driver's license.
