Eligibility requirements

This position is partially funded by the Canada Summer Jobs fund. In order to be considered for this job you must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment contract;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment (student visas do not qualify); and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

The Maintenance Assistant works closely with the Maintenance Coordinator to assist and support general building maintenance.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Preparing and painting walls
  2. Assist with general building maintenance and upgrades including the support of annualized scheduled maintenance activities
  3. Ordering of supplies and resources to complete required repairs and upgrades
  4. Trouble shooting problems as they arise
  5. Support the completion of special maintenance projects such as painting, minor repairs, flooring upgrades and other facilities repairs
  6. Maintaining proper records of work completed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. Experience with general property maintenance and up-keep
  2. Painting and carpentry experience considered an asset
  3. Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  4. Ability to use Maintenance Care platform
  5. Able to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team setting
  6. Eager and able to learn quickly and take initiative
  7. Ability to lift a minimum of 40lbs or more, ability to twist, bend and work overhead
  8. Knowledge and experience working with power tools
  9. Must have a valid driver's license
  10. Access to a vehicle an asset
