Are you an experienced, capable, and passionate individual with a strong interest in the aquaculture sector? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you! The Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada, a leading private aquaculture innovation and research company, is currently looking for a Research Associate to join our team in Souris, PE.

The Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada (CATC) is an R&D and contract service organization focused on the application of biotechnologies to improve productivity, efficiency and sustainability in aquaculture and related industries. The company combines extensive experience in aquaculture with a strong background in aquatic animal health, nutrition, and molecular biology to provide research‐based solutions. Includes two facilities in Souris and Victoria with 67,000 square feet of aquatic animal research space and includes expansive, purpose-built wet and dry lab areas. The wet lab area are AQC1/2/3 (Aquatic Animal Containment) certified to provide services in drug approvals, vaccine testing, Batch release, and evaluation of feed ingredients. Operations include pilot-scale feed extruder.

The Research Associate is a full-time, temporary position (1 year) with an immediate start date. As a Research Associate, you will report directly to the Senior Research Associate and be an integral part of our research team, which is dedicated to providing high-quality contract R&D support and professional services to the global aquaculture industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the setup, maintenance, and termination of in vivo
  • Performing routine sampling, animal health assessment and laboratory procedures.
  • Ensuring animal husbandry and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Ensuring the operational efficiency of the aquatic laboratory.
  • Taking care of the laboratory, including equipment calibration and qualification, as well as meticulous record-keeping.
  • Conducting data acquisition, analysis, interpretation, and reporting/verification of results.
  • Developing and revising Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Providing training for staff in the proper use of specific SOPs.
  • Supervising staff, including interns and junior research associates, to foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Maintaining lab books, lab reports, and meticulous record-keeping.
  • Fulfilling any additional duties as required within the general scope of the role.
  • Communicating and collaborating effectively with all team members to ensure a cohesive and efficient research environment.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • A minimum of a BSc. in a relevant field. A postgraduate degree with applicable industry and/or research experience would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and execute multiple projects concurrently, ensuring timely completion.
  • Physical ability to handle routine and repetitive tasks, including cleaning of experimental systems, bending, and lifting.
  • Experience working in a regulatory environment in compliance with standard operating procedures.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating self-motivation and initiative.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work effectively under deadlines.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and weekend shifts to accommodate the needs of ongoing experiments.
  • Service-oriented approach with a strong commitment to ensuring client satisfaction.
