Your day-to-day will look like:

  • Be a subject matter expert on all phases of construction project execution, displaying operational excellence every step of the way.
  • Be a progressive, collaborative, and dynamic leader and communicator. Positively guide direct-reports and staff members in project planning and execution.
  • Proactively coach and develop direct reports, forepersons, providing training, development goals and facilitate performance reviews.
  • Prioritize team member cohesion, collaboration, and communication.
  • Collaborate with management and field staff on all aspects of the job.
  • Review all time sheets for accuracy and approve daily.
  • Review job costing reports daily. Changing methods as required to increase profitability.
  • Co-ordinate with forepersons to coordinate equipment needs and utilization.
  • Ensure purchase orders and requisitions for all materials and supplies are completed daily.
  • Create 3 week look ahead schedules, including crews and equipment.
  • Work with leadership and PMs on long term schedules.
  • Review productions for each task with foreperson and other site leaders.
  • Report frequently to the General Superintendent, on construction schedules, stakeholder issues and potential solutions, staffing and budget.
  • Communicate hiring needs to General Superintendent.
  • Implement best practice construction methods.
  • Delegate, supervise and assign work to staff members.
  • Allocate crews to each foreman.
  • Propose budget recommendations in partnership with PM and General Superintendent.
  • Effectively manage internal/external conflict and solve complex construction problems.
  • Successfully assess and manage all construction operational risks.
  • Promote Hall culture amongst work colleagues, departments, and job sites.

You have the following qualifications, technical and interpersonal skills:
Qualifications:

  • Years of experience: Minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience in civil construction, trades or a relevant field.
  • Education: Post secondary training in a relevant field, considered an asset.
  • Designations: Gold Seal, PMP considered an asset.
  • Experience with HCSS and Sitedocs is an asset
  • Proven, progressively senior experience demonstrating operational excellence across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is an asset.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong leadership in construction operations.
  • Identify the specific needs of the owner and other stakeholders to ensure that they are met on all projects.
  • Read and understand blueprints, specifications, and schedules.
  • Read and understand job costing reports.
  • Resource allocation to meet construction schedule and complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Monitor project and people performance to proactively identify efficiency issues and propose solutions.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Ability to drive process improvements.
  • Excellent project management and operational execution skills.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Ability to inspire, motivate and lead team members.
  • Proactively liaise with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Possess strong leadership competencies to direct and execute all aspects of project planning and execution.
  • Ability to approve, recommend, and/or act regarding team talent, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and regularly with team members and senior leadership.
  • Ability to work in a complex, results-oriented, dynamic, entrepreneurial organization.
  • Highly organized with great time management skills.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships.
  • Strong ability to resolve conflict, negotiate and build trust.
