About Us:

Canadian Parents for French is a nationwide, research-informed, volunteer organization that furthers bilingualism by promoting opportunities to learn and use French for all those who call Canada home. We are actively recruiting for a half-time* Coordinator, Communications, Atlantic Region. This position can be based in Halifax or Charlottetown.

*This position has the potential to be combined with another half-time coordinator role, namely Coordinator, Internal Communications (Open Canada-wide). About the Role:

CPF is looking for a talented and experienced Communications specialist to strengthen our communications and marketing, to build community engagement and promote our programming and services through our various digital platforms (social media accounts, websites, newsletters and email blasts).

The successful candidate will support our four Canadian Parents for French Atlantic Branches. The hybrid position will be based in Halifax or Charlottetown and will require some scheduled travel within the Atlantic region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all communications (digital and print) in line with CPF Network brand guidelines to promote engagement and participation in programs and events.
  • Draft member and community outreach and support materials such as monthly newsletters, project brochures, slide deck templates, articles for publication in CPF Magazine, etc.
  • Plan and manage social media activities and digital campaigns, maintain a calendar for scheduling communications for all channels, measure and report on digital marketing performance. Review user generated posts on social media accounts in a timely manner and respond according to CPF guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Atlantic Branch staff to implement website updates as required. Monitor website statistics and report on web and social media visitor traffic.Develop and execute a search engine optimization (SEO) program to ensure that the CPF Atlantic branches and projects are visible and easily accessible.
  • Coordinate with and provide updates to all Atlantic Branch staff, developing strategic key messages and responses for Network outreach and engagement initiatives, supporting staff through one-on-one meetings, teleconferences, emails, etc.
  • Build relationships with partner groups, disseminate relevant communications in support of partner and stakeholder initiatives.
  • Draft and support distribution of external and advocacy communications such as media releases, news articles, op-ed pieces, ad copy, etc., and project-specific public and stakeholder consultation materials as required. Assist with public relations through research, presentations, media, briefs on range of issues at the local school and provincial level.

About You:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or diploma in a relevant field (marketing, journalism, digital media); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience in the field of strategic communications, ideally in a member focused, not for profit setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail, editing, proofreading, and reviewing translations; adapting documents for accessibility to generalist audiences. Fluency in both official languages is required.
  • Proven storytelling and writing capabilities, experience in writing member newsletters and blogs, producing infographics, managing organizational social media accounts and websites to make an impact with readers.
  • Demonstrated strong technology skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Teams, Sharepoint), familiarity scheduling and posting on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin and Youtube) and using Web-based applications (WordPress, HootSuite, Google Analytics) are essential. Familiarity with graphic design programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, WordPress, Elementor, Canva) is an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Client focused, including demonstrated skills in team building and meeting management skills.

Other Criteria:

  • This is a half time (20 hours per week), 1 year contract position with annual opportunities for renewal.
  • Salary range is $27.00 – $35.00 hourly, commensurate with experience.
  • Hours will be Monday to Friday. Willingness to work flexible hours is required.
  • This position sometimes requires overtime, evenings, or weekends, as well as travel outside the workplace.
  • Ability to travel. A valid driver's license and car are considered an asset but not required.
  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
