Job Description

Mission

As an Engineering Manager in our Buildings Division Ottawa, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing our engineering projects in the commercial, healthcare, education, government, and municipal sectors with a strong focus on sustainable engineering practices. You will be responsible for overseeing the entire project lifecycle, from concept development to construction completion, while ensuring technical excellence, adherence to schedules, client satisfaction, and environmental stewardship. Your expertise in buildings engineering combined with strong leadership and management skills will be crucial in driving successful and sustainable project outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Lead and manage engineering projects in the commercial, healthcare, education, and municipal markets, incorporating sustainable engineering practices. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with environmental standards.
  • Team Leadership: Provide effective leadership to a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical staff in implementing sustainable design principles. Foster collaboration, mentorship, and professional development within the team.
  • Sustainable Design Integration: Drive the integration of sustainable design principles and practices into engineering projects. Promote energy efficiency, renewable energy utilization, water conservation, waste reduction, and other sustainable strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their sustainability goals, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional engineering services. Act as a trusted advisor and advocate for sustainable solutions.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance and expertise in sustainable buildings engineering. Review and approve design documents, calculations, and specifications with a focus on sustainability. Ensure compliance with relevant green building standards and certifications.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure the delivery of high-quality and sustainable engineering solutions. Conduct thorough reviews of engineering deliverables to verify adherence to sustainability criteria.
  • Business Development: Contribute to business development efforts by identifying and pursuing opportunities for sustainable projects in the commercial, healthcare, government, education, and municipal sectors. Participate in client meetings, proposal preparation, and presentations highlighting sustainable engineering expertise.
  • Project Financials: Monitor project budgets, costs, and profitability while considering sustainable strategies. Identify and implement cost-effective sustainable solutions and measures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. A Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in buildings engineering, with a strong focus on sustainable design and practices.
  • Proven track record in successfully managing and delivering engineering projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge and expertise in buildings engineering design principles, codes, and standards.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team of professionals toward sustainable outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain client relationships effectively, emphasizing sustainability.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to contribute to business development activities related to sustainable engineering.
  • Proficiency in project management software, design software, and other relevant engineering tools.
