Job Summary:

The Service Technician, Fixtures, plays an important role in supporting the smooth operation of manufacturing and assembly processes in a global automotive manufacturing company. They ensure that fixtures are properly maintained, repaired, and optimized to meet production requirements.

Typically, this role has a background in machining and is specializing in assembly and manufacturing of fixtures and related equipment through wire, panel, and power assembly. To assist in the testing and troubleshooting of new and rebuilt fixtures.

Fixtures refers to a specialized tool or device used to securely hold and position components, parts, or assemblies during manufacturing and assembly processes. Fixtures are designed to ensure precise alignment, accuracy, and repeatability, thereby facilitating efficient and high-quality production.


Job Responsibilities:

Your supervisor may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this job description. This job's key responsibilities include:

  • Fixture Maintenance: Regularly inspecting fixtures to ensure they are in proper working condition. This includes identifying any wear and tear, damage, or malfunctions and performing maintenance tasks such as lubrication, cleaning, and component replacement.
  • Machine & Assembly: works with engineering teams to plan select machine cutters, set up, rough machine, Finish machine, Debur, check to print the final document. Performs rough layout of components. Plans and executes cutouts, drilling, cage assembly, etc. Installs components using planning of basic pneumatic sequence and informing pneumatics technician.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnoses issues with fixtures that arise during manufacturing or assembly processes. This may involve analyzing performance data, conducting tests, and using problem-solving skills to identify root causes and implement solutions. During the commissioning process, this role troubleshoots any issues that arise, such as mechanical failures, electrical problems, or programming errors. They diagnose root causes and implement solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Repair and Calibration: Performs repairs on fixtures as needed, including replacing damaged components, adjusting alignment, and recalibrating equipment to maintain accuracy and functionality.
  • Optimization: Collaborates with engineering and production teams to optimize fixture designs and processes for improved efficiency, quality, and safety. This may involve making modifications to existing fixtures or developing new fixtures to meet evolving manufacturing requirements.
  • Documentation: Maintains detailed records of fixture maintenance activities, repairs, and calibration procedures. This documentation helps ensure compliance with quality standards, facilitates troubleshooting efforts, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. Ensures fixture is ready for dry cycle testing and documented. Notify supervisor throughout this process and also when complete.

Job Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is a minimum requirement. Ideally relevant technical training such as completing vocational or technical training program in fields such as machining, mechanical engineering technology, industrial maintenance, or a related discipline can provide valuable knowledge and skills relevant to fixture maintenance and repair.
  • Machining Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a mechanical or technical field in a manufacturing / assembly with specific experience in finishing jigs and fixtures, knowledge of finishing components and their operations.
  • Mechanical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude is essential for understanding fixture components, troubleshooting issues, and performing maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and diagnostic equipment is necessary for servicing fixtures effectively. Ability to utilize bench an assembly tools.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and blueprints to understand fixture designs and specifications.
